Hawk one stick made or get a EWO ultimate?

I want to give one sticking and honest shot. I have HSP for my Hawk sticks. So I could cut one. Get/make an aider. Add Cam cleat w/rope.
Or go all in on the ultimate one stick and get a UP on top.
Any one have experience to note either way?
The hawk mod will be cheaper yes. But will it make doing it more difficult?
Convince me one way or the other.

I did the same exact thing. I made a hawk one stick and I ended up not liking it. Not enough stand off room. I went with a diy stick made from ewo parts and it is so much better/worth the money. The webbing aider is noticeably sturdier and the stand off room is really great.

Honestly, the EWO stick is a lot of money, but it probably the best stick on the market. You might be ok with settling for now, but you will eventually kick yourself for not going the EWO route

In my original thinking, I was gonna add the stand offs to my helium's. But i don't think they will fit with out some extra modifications. So they extra stand off seems like a big plus.
 
Yeah I don’t know. I end up doing the same sorts of things myself and then realize they aren’t as good as the real deal so I end up buying the high quality component anyway. So then I am out time, money and energy when I should have just gotten the higher quality thing to begin with. I’ve done it before and I am sure I will do it again

Here is the stand off difference. It doesn’t seem like it would be a big deal but you really do feel the difference on the tree. Especially with the 3 step aider. It gives you a noticeable more amount of room to get your foot into the aider.

Get the EWO stand offs you’ll be happier as they have the furthest distance from the tree than any other stick on the market they really make a difference and add a aider 2 or 3 step. It will definitely help in the learning curve of one sticking
 
My opinion is if an EWO one stick fits into your budget you’ll be much happier with it. If it stresses your budget then go the hawk route. I have several EWO sticks and they are top notch quality.

Buy once cry once thought here. If I try to save some cash and it costs me angony and frustration. Then end up selling it and trying something else I will be out even more. So if the EWO path is the eassier way to go. Thats me. I put my hands on that set up last weekend. It was nice. I can see how the extra stand off will benefit.
 
I did just what you describe. Got a cut down Hawk stick from a member here, added the HSP and a cam cleat to see if this climbing method worked for me. Built a two step aider. The whole thing was less than $100. The platform is probably a bit small for all day sits but it is certainly usable and let me try one sticking. Now that I am hooked I will probably buy a better stick/platform combination but I will keep this as a backup.

Go with the EWO Ultimate One Stick. You will not be disappointed.
 
Same here you can’t get better than EWO stick worth the extra money for safety and nothing I have found locks to the tree better just my opinion
