Swap to a 300 spine and put 100 grain inserts. Mine are very close to your length and come in at 508 grains

Gold tip hunter XT 300 spine, 29”. 100 grain insert and 100 grain point. I considered 125 grain point but since this setup is shooting so good, I feel no need to buy new broadheads. I shot a lot of combinations before settling on this one

Just picked up two 300 spine and two 340 spine Axis arrows to experiment with. Cut to 26" carbon to carbon with 100 grain brass inserts in them. Going to see how each shoots before committing to buying more. Have 165 grain field points. Planning to use 165 grain Simmons Tiger Sharks. But I'm not opposed to something else if they don't work out.

Edit: Also somehow managed to roll my string off of my cam and had to get that put back on. Think it was my basketball shorts getting caught in the cam when letting down.

I am shooting the same set up that I have shot for years. Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo at 62 lbs. 420 grain total arrow weight. 100 grain Slick Trick Grizz Trick, 10% FOC, 75.7 KE, 285 fps. Bare shafts and broadheads have the same POI at 20 yards. This set up has shot thru Elk, Antelope, Hogs, and big bodied Iowa deer. I have a single pin sight set at 27 yards that is good from 15 yards to 35 yards. I will not shoot a deer past about 27 yards. I practice with this set up from different heights, different stands and from my saddle set up.

Shoot what works for you. Make sure your bow is tuned (nock height correct, timing correct, cam lean correct, rest timing correct) and your arrow is spined correctly with your set up.

Here is some great info from a guy that knows his stuff. Similar testing has been around for years, but this was done in the last few days.

If this link does not work search Joel Maxfield on Facebook for test results.

As a long draw guy I kind of laugh at you shorties.. I’m 440-ish grains without doing anything special to my arrows. A 100gr insert puts me easily over 500gr. I could probably make some rebar arrows with heavier outserts and heavier heads I’m just not interested in spending the money or time tinkering right now.

Do you guys put your bow on a draw board and make sure it is all perfect before switching different arrows? Doing this should help with the tuning process... At least it did for me last year. I put on new strings I made and then put about a 100 arrows through it to break it in. I then put it on the draw board and got it perfectly timed. It took just a couple more adjustments and my 412 grain arrow and 488 grain arrows both were shooting bullet holes bare shafts.

I've been looking at the day6 arrows and potentially their heads. I should have time coming up in the next couple of weeks to get this setup done before season starts. My goal would be 550-600 grain setup.

Found some GT Hunter XT 300s at basspro today. Had them cut to my length and threw on a 225gr field tip. The seem to fly pretty well. I’m waiting on some Ethics 100gr inserts and will tune to my 125gr slick tricks. Should do the trick.

Finally got around to shooting my new arrows yesterday. Had to bring my sight down a bit but I was slapping them together with the 340 arrows. They blew through my Black Hole target so I'm going to have to pick up a different target for broadheads. Once I get that I'll try to do some testing with the broadheads and 300 spine arrows. Looking forward to putting one through a deer.

how the 300 shoot for you? I have 300 and 400 spine arrows but wanted to see how 340 or 350 would shoot outta my bow. If your arrows are cut at 26" im assuming your draw is similar to mine. Im a 26.5 draw.

I shoot Carbon Express Maximum hunter shafts with 100 grain heads the arrows total weight is 403 grains. Been using the same setup for years out of a Martin Rytera Alien Z at 28 inch draw length at 55 pounds and a speed of 264. Works for me .

Yeah I have a 26" draw length. Honestly I ended buying more 340 spine but I think you'd be fine with 300. I've seen others with a short draw length using 300 spine. Unless I get real crazy with the broadhead and insert weight I think 340 will work well.

My heavy arrow came through for me yesterday...

Shot from a PSE Decree Hd at 70lbs with 27” draw length (27.75” shaft length)

250 spine black eagle carnivore
100gr ethics archery insert
315gr Tuffhead broadhead

710 grain with 25.4% FOC

After a week of public land kicking my butt in high temps with bright moons, I decided to take the first buck I could. Had this guy come trotting through at 9:30 this morning. As I mentioned above, the shot was dang near straight down.

First off, I would have never had the confidence with my last setup to take a kill zone shot at this angle. Even taking this shot means my heavy arrow setup did its job in increasing my confidence. The utter destruction it wreaked on this deer was impressive.

It entered at the tip of the backstrap between the shoulder and the spine, breaking the top of the shoulder blade. From there, it came out the opposite side rib cage where it meets the sternum, then broke the leg bone and imbedded in the leg on the way out. If it hadn’t hit the leg, it would have been imbedded in the dirt. As it was, he broke the arrow running and I found it about 10 yards from the shot. Deer went down in 45 yards, flipping head over heels. Arrow caught top of left lung, cut the arteries off the top of the heart, and destroyed most of the right lung. I am beyond impressed with its performance.

Last shot is point of impact in reference to me standing on the top of my climbing stick. I had to lean dang near over top of him because the bottom cam of my bow was rubbing the tree.
