I never shoot at a deer beyond 30 and prefer to stay around 20. For me, I just feel too much can go wrong beyond 30. Shot my buck last year at 9 yards. The only time I care about how far I can shoot is at the fall fun shoot at the archery club where they have a 3D moose with an 8” circle target on it at 88 yards. 3 chances for $1. If you hit the circle, you get a free beer. So much pressure:)
 
I'm shooting easton axis 300 cut at 29.5 inches with a 50 grain insert and 100 grain tips with a 4 fletch and nockturnal on the back. Total weight right around 520 if I remember correctly. I wouldn't go any heavier due to drop off at further distances and I think this weight is the sweet spot for the game and distance I will be shooting.
 
I've been wanting to jump into the heavier arrow game for a while, but I'll be honest, I know VERY little about bow tuning and arrow building. I'm currently shooting some GoldTip Hunter XT 340s cut to 28.75", topped with a 100gr Grim Reaper Whitetail Special. Total weight is right at 400gr. It does pretty well, but I'm wanting to switch to fixed blades and get more penetration.

I'm thinking I might buy some 225 gr field tips and see what it does. If it flies ok, then I'll grab some 100gr inserts, 125 gr slick tricks and call it a day. It wouldn't be crazy but something around 525-550gr would be plenty for the small GA whitetails I'm after.

I'd suggest the field point test kits from Ethics Archery to figure out what you need.
 
I shoot gold tip valkyrie 340s cut at 27in. I actually use them for target and hunting because it’s a fatter arrow. I love them tho, with the front inserts that gold tip uses you can add a good bit of weight. I’m shooting 480gr right now @28.5 70# vertix. 265fps hitting like a Mack truck. I’m just experimenting with these this year we will see how they perform when I shoot a deer.

65lb, 29.5" draw. Total arrow weight is 616g. Went with the GT Ted Nuggent 300 in white. They are 10.8 gpi. Standard 12g insert with 250g VPA up front. The white arrow shows the blood so well. Good luck!
