Heavy Arrows and Long Distance Fun

I think everybody likes to shoot far sometimes during practice. My bottom pin is 68 yards (thats as far down as the pin goes, 20 yard is as high as it goes). Holding over the top of my target, I’ll shoot out to 75. I’d love to try 100+ with a bigger target and backstop.

Anybody else with 600+ grain arrows start to question/change their setup because they run out of range? My budget mindset is one universal arrow build - deer, elk, hogs, turkey, dots on foam blocks. Time for a better sight i guess, cause I’m not going any lighter in my arrows.

i cant go much beyond 65 with my current setup. 570 grains at 60# and 30" DL. I like to shoot the long distance because my mistakes are magnified, but i dont hunt elk,so it isn't a problem.

Single pin slider, don't shoot deer past 30 with it - and don't move it deer hunting.

I shoot out to 100 every year. My arrows weigh 600+. I usually shoot 10-12 sessions inside of 50 yards, before slowly working my way back throughout the summer. By season I'm shooting 100 yards most days. 80 if it's a quick session.

I'll shoot other critters beyond 30 yards, and I like to shoot for fun at long distances. It also greatly improves my precision on shorter shots after lobbing them long distance regularly. Really puts things in perspective.

Heck yea man that’s awesome. Can i ask you what vanes you’re using and arrow details, what sight, and what stabilizer?

Haven’t made it past 86yds but the new place should get me several hundred. That reminds me, I need to order some more shafts lol.

I shoot 525grn arrows with an hha tetra sight. Changing to 0.01 pins made a big difference.

I use hha optimizer ultra. Arrows are all over the place, but 225-275gr up front, stabilizer is a cheapo about 8” long. Nothing special about my setup at all. Just take the time to tune everything, and have shot a bow my entire life.
