I’m sure there are better options. Now that we have that out of the way, has anyone made one and care to share details? Swore i never would, but now i’m curious if it is something I would enjoyed

Yup. I took a full length and climbed with it to see if I liked it, then cut it down to 18” and tried again. The issue I had is fully kited out I’m close to 250lbs. The side loading and twisting pressure fatigued the thin metal of the frame to the point I had one bend and actually another break. Not really surprising and no fault of the stick as it’s not meant to do that. Just my exp. YMMV.

Well that is about all the info I needed. I’m only 190ish but don’t like the idea of the metal giving away at height. I guess i’ll think about buying a one stick in the spring. Too late to get proficient before the season opens in 2 weeks anyway. Wife is home to much to sneak another package that big home anyway! Thanks for the info.

I have 2 shorty 1-sticks made from heliums. One is like 12” and one about 18”. Work great for me. No problems.

I've been using same full length original Hawk Helium cut down to about 20" for three seasons now. That's about 300 climbs of an average of 5 loadings per climb. Fully loaded out I'm a solid 260-270 lbs. Not a single issue with mine. I've got a single step aider wrapped around the bottom standoff too so I'm stressing that in addition to the steps. I couldn't be more pleased with mine. I think I've got my investment out of it. :tearsofjoy:

I did two seasons on a hawk helium full length stick cut to 22”. The second season I added the hawk stick platform, maybe extra stress? Never had an issue. I went away from it this year to get more compact. I kept it as a backup instead of selling because I like it so much.

I assume you already have heliums? I bought mine used 2 years ago from a guy here, 3 regular, the 4th with a flat solo scout installed on top. Oddly, he had a 2 step aider on a regular one, but i moved the 2 step aider to the solo scout, sitting in the garage. If you want it, PM me, I’ll sell it cheap. It needs a Rope mod and a harken cleat, has the stock strap right now. The aider is amsteel. I’ll still use the other 3 to get up trees in order to set presets or during cold weather. Actually, mine might be the double step hawks cut down.

I 1 stick with a 36” helium and single step aider and it’s my favorite. I also use the short one with. 2 step aider and the mini platform on top. Cam cleats with amsteel or other cordage and you’re golden! Don’t forget to add a super sized gear tie on top!

how do you attach amstel to stick to use with cam cleat?

Hawk mini with hsp top and a generic cam cleat
Ballin on a budget
Shikar mini with 3 step super jakey homemade aider
I'm going to get a 3 step ultimaider and a better one stick rope and see which one I like better.

I’m in the same boat. I ran the helium last year. This year I’m running the mini shikar for the compactness and just switch to a platform at height. Practice climbed a few times and loved the stick but missed the simplicity of having the top stick platform. Just ordered a flat monarch. I’ll save the stand alone platform for long hunts which don’t happen often for me.

Ill run the Edp for quick hunts and the mission for longer hunts.
Used the hawk hsp for a few hunts and it works but I much prefer a separate platform to huntoff and use the top of the stick for around the tree movement.
