Hickory Creek Koolaid

Questions.

Anyone bareshaft tune their mini?

Anyone run really heavy FOC?

I'm thinking about tuning my Mini to 125-130lbs only so I can loan it by hand. Using 300 spine 8.44gpi arrows cut at 21in. Thinking about using 125-150 grain board head up front. So this would still only get me to 350grains total arrow weights. Does that sound light to anyone except me?

The arrows that Hickory Creek sell for it is 300 spine at 23in.

I use 250 and 300 spine used arrows wherever I can get em. Cheap.

100gr ss half out 125gr broadhead.

Cut em as short as I can.

Straightness doesn’t matter at mini arrow length.

Square front and back of arrow.

None that I’ve set up this way have not shot well.

I did broadhead tune just to make sure. I bumped my rest 1/64” to correct a horizontal issue at 50 yards(didn’t show up until 50).

The mini is designed to take all of this out of the equation if you ask me. It’ll eat pretty much anything.

Also, if you are looking for an awesome quiver for the HC, the Alpine Archery Soft Loc is fantastic. There is a 3 arrow version, that is compact, and the way it mounts, you can slide it up and down so your fletching doesn't stick out at all. You still need the adjust quiver bracket to mount it, but with the sliding mount, you can slide the quiver down and when you need to cock the bow, just slide it up.
Ive installed the HHA bracket… it does adjust enough to get a foot in the stirrup. But I’m fairly sure the only thing preventing a massive chest impact from the shoulder stock is the two set screws holding the stirrup into the bow, every time you cock it you are trying to pull the stirrup out of the machine. (Correct me if I’m wrong) I keep an eye on making sure they’re tight. But Im just not willing to cock the thing with two arrow nock ends directed to my abdomen, and the HHA doesn’t allow for enough angle adjustment to prevent this. Maybe sometime I’ll investigate the Soft Loc quiver but I think for now I’m just going to settle for removing the quiver most times I cock it.

What do you guys use for a sling on your mini?

I’m really enjoying this bow, bought it two months ago. I shot a doe this morning at ~30 yards. After reading this thread, I made a few recommended upgrades:
-Excalibur Overwatch scope from Wyvern
-Lock nut on the end
-Nylon washer on the safety
-HHA bracket

Any ideas out there for a sling? Somebody's gots some ideas.

I have a backpack that has a chest strap. So what I’ve been doing is clipping chest strap through the butt stock and it works perfect for me. I still hold it most of the time, but can let it hang with confidence.
I took the mini out scouting today and found it a pain to figure out how to carry it. I'll have to try this.
Thanks

What broadhead are you referring to?

I'm open to other a switch and open to hearing others those have had success with. I prefer fixed blades.

I use a wide cut 2 blade fixed head for broadhead tuning. I’m purposely making it harder to stabilize to show the direction things need to be tweaked. I don’t hunt with that head. I just grab one from the box of don’t hunt withs for that tuning.

I typically hunt with Exodus heads. 125 full blade.

For those that changed out the stock three bristle arrow rest to a whisker biscuit, were there any adjustments, issues, or changes that you made to mounting the stock whisker biscuit bracket to the body of the bow?

Did you mount the new bracket with only one bolt? Or two?

I decided to go with a four vane arrow, and am going to change the arrow rest. I don't have any really vertical bow archery experience, so this is all sort of new to me.

Thanks ahead of time.
