Hickory Creek Koolaid

How tight do you have the rings? Overntightening can cause distortion issues somentimes...
Well, I didn't use the fancy wrench called for in the directions as I don't own one. I have no idea other than to say I did what I perceived as lightly snugging the bolts tight, without elevating pressure substantially.

The eyepiece focuses the reticle so it is sharp to your eye.
I'm an idiot. Just talked to Vortex support who are awesome, and this has got to be it. I had no idea and I don't remember seeing that in the manual. The lens covers apparently cover it up also so I couldn't see the adjustment mechanism.

Appreciate people jumping in to help.

That should fix it. If it doesn’t, you have some astigmatism. I see double crosshairs if I’m not wearing my glasses

FYI, If it has a focusing objective that is for focusing the image not the reticle.

ok guys, Need your input. I have the original HC (long version). I am looking for a good crossbow scope. What do you guys like? Ive went through the entire thread and have seen a Nikon and heard about a Vortex.
There arent many specs on the original HC and from what I have researched it's a 400gr arrow around 365FPS.

If you guys have any other info, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Kyler mentioned Parker Red Hot ... and so I got that scope for the mini. I found it on ebay. I like the build of it. Later today I plan on sighting it in.

That was it. I feel like such a dumbass.

I was literally going to go return the thing figuring it was defective. Only defective thing was me.

This reticle is sweet. This may not be as high quality as the Tenpoint/Hawke scopes recommended above, but at $200 ($40 of which was store cash for me) I'm happy with the tradeoffs. I hope I'll get some improved low light performance, and I love the reticle design and red/green light.

The scope looks kinda big on the Mini though, especially compared to the original.

Photos or it didn't happen... :D
Sorry, got bust sighting. The dumbassery continued as I lost an arrow watching it sail wide right into the woods. Surprised the 40 was so far off the 6 based on what the manual said.

Got the 20 shooting pretty well for now. Might have to investigate that lock nut thing you all are talking about to tighten up groups. Will probably need help there...again...kinda a dumbass.

I am contemplating getting one of these for my wife for Christmas. I think it looks pretty slick with the Vortex glass...

I went with the Hawke XB30 after @LoadedLimbs recommendations here: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/hickory-creek-koolaid.27820/post-439988 I went with low rings 30mm to fit a Weaver rail and had to cut the rail down a bit to account for the taper of the scope. Medium or high rings may work but you might max out the elevation on the scope. The Hawke performs great in low light and has a lighted reticle and poor low light performance was my biggest gripe of the scope that came on the bow. Be sure to move the Weaver rail to clear the string and you'll probably need to remove the bowjax to clear the scope as well. I maxed the windage on the scope for the first few shots and realized I needed to move the rail adjustment just a bit closer to the string to allow for more windage adjustment on the scope. A couple hours after opening the scope box, I was shooting groups touching arrows out to 40 yds and stopped there. There are clear instructions with the scope how to sight it in once installed on the bow. I'm assuming it would work the same on the original HC as well but not sure. There are adjustments for fps (magnifiation) to fit your individual bow on the scope itself.

I have the Parker that kyler1945 recommends that I would sell you. It’s brand new. Never opened the box.

Trip to Ace and 5/16-18 nylon lock nut installed. That was easy. Grade 8 ok to use?

I'm not really sure why I put that on. I have had zero wobble. Just felt like others were convinced it improved accuracy and I'll take any advantage I can get, especially at $1.19. Plus I never take the Mini apart, which is odd, as that was one of my principal orginal attractions.

Off to a new property with recent daylight deer traffic tomorrow. Three new Schwackers tipped in the quiver, out for blood!

I have the same one and it is awesome for low light. I took a deer with 1 minute of legal light left and that was in the timber, not a field edge!
