How’s your Mantis holding up?

I’ve got a Tethrd Mantis and original sys hauler es that are starting to show some wear. I have not reached out to Tethrd yet, but I’m curious. Should this be expected? In making the case to my wife about making the switch, I was all, “This is all I’ll need for a decade!” Now a few years in I’m unhappy with the level of wear. As you can see in the pics, the stitching is coming undone in a couple places and the sys hauler is unraveling. The sys hauler has been like this for at least 2 years. The saddle issue is newer.
What’s your experience?

In your opinion, should the wear above be something I bring up to Tethrd in hopes of some kind of repair or should I just take it as normal and acceptable wear and tear?

Those don’t look like stitches that are in the life saving section of the saddle, but idk. I doubt they would give you any kind of refund or anything since they don’t say these things should last 10 years. It’s more like 2-3 I think.

The stitches in my SYS Hauler came apart in the same manner as yours. I contacted Tethrd and received a new one in the mail a few days later. Just e-mail Tethrd's customer service I'm certain they will address your concerns.

Agreed, it can't hurt to contact them and find out what they say.

I’ve only heard good things about tether’s customer service. They’re good people that help their own imo. I’d reach out and see what they say.

I know how those convos can go with the wife…

Same thing happened to my SYS Hauler, after 2 season. I just canned it and got a Latitude. It is made with much more robust material, and it stays open better so you don't need two hands to stow a rope in it. It was a big upgrade for me.

Smart man!
I have the method and method2. Best saddles I’ve used yet. And I agree with you, the pouches are much better too.

Semper Fi,
Mike

My SYShauler unraveled after about 1/2 a season. I ended making one of my own and it's on the end of it's second season without any issues, and I'm hardly an experienced "thread injector". In fact that pouch was the first thing I ever made with a sewing machine so it shouldn't be that hard to make reliably.

On the other hand, I hunted 2 long seasons in a Mantis and other than some mild briar snags in the waist belt it's in stellar shape. No stitching issues. FWIW though it was one of the original, made in the USA, saddles from when Tethrd first took preorders.

Two sits in my Mantis wasn't enough to put any signs of wear on it but it did wear me out! Sold that torture device. I've got two seasons with a sys hauler and will scrap it when the season is over in a few weeks. At the end of last season it started to come apart where the mesh meets the nylon upper (stitching is fine, the nylon material tore away).

I have (had) the exact experience as others. Had an original waited for months on preorder Mantis, put that sucker down the road as soon as that season ended. I do however still have the SYS haulers. They have been repaired multiple times. Similar to a cat, nine lives, but on life #8......

Thanks guys, I just bought a used mantis a few weeks ago as my first saddle and ordered 2 sys haulers from Tethrd last week. I wish I would have had this info sooner!!! My mantis does look to be in pretty good shape. I did replace the bridge with an adjustable from cruzr. Looking forward to trying the saddle thing out.

You can make a Mantis work for you, especially if you’re a leaner. I’ve been able to dial in the comfort well enough to stay on stand but not so well that I fall asleep in it. Win-win.

My buddy killed a buck out his cruzr XC, so he let me use for few days this season. I liked it enough that I could find a saddle useful especially for long hikebacks on public and out of state hunts.

I picked up 2 sys haulers, the hys strap and clips and a predator platform from Tethrd last week when OnX elite members received 20% from Tethrd. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to do for ropes. Right now I’ve just been using my hunter safety system lifeline with the prusik knot
