How big a boy are ya…… climbing system question?

I’m 6’2” and currently 270. I use grade 8 bolts and also have titanium bolts. I haven’t bent either yet. Keep your foot against the tree as said above. Also if you decide to use one of the unconventional bolt materials don’t space them out so far that you have to heave yourself up to the nest bolt. People don’t bend bolts trying to step up but the bounce and sudden surge to help them step up to the next one.

How far do y’all space the bolts? I know ur depends on ur size and stride. But on average where abouts do u pu bolt 1, 2, 3. Knee waist chin?? Etc. just looking for ideas to start with. How far apart left to right? Depends on tree yes but say basket ball size for reference.

Place foot on bolt. Drill other hole at knee height. I tried drilling the first few from the ground using the measurements of my knee, waist, and chest but it was better just to use the length of bolt to knee. If you are on a large tree, you need not put them on the outermost part of the trunk. I like them about chest width apart.

Do you guys set them up so that the bolts are staggered, or do you have them opposite eachother?

Staggered with the first bolt being about knee height on the right side, then step up onto the bolt and drill the left bolt at knee height. Then I use the length from my elbow to 3 inch past the tip of my middle finger for the next right bolt. I can drill three from the ground usually. Place them about hip width apart on the tree.

Always set them up the same way. For instance, set the first one right or left and always stick to that. It really helps find the holes later.

Good info guys. Got my first bolts in today. Waiting on my bits. Gina try some stuff this weekend and see how it goes!
