How do you deploy you platform?

I struggled last year with a smooth and easy way to carry my platform and also getting it into the tree when I was up and ready for it.
— carried on my back in a pack and had to get it out at he from the pack and setup
— hauled it to to the spot with a hoist line, kinda a pain
— used a shoulder strap to carry it up while I climbed, worked okay

This year I bought a TL Platow pack and added a Backwoods Custom Gear platform pack to it. With this combo, I can carry my pack up the tree and reach back and grab my platform with the pack on. Works pretty well… the only downside is the Platow pack is a little unwieldy to get on when all loaded down. A minor nitpick.

Curious how others are managing their platform once at height..

Happy Hunting!

I don’t like climbing with my pack, I leave it at the bottom with my bow. I put one stick on the tree, one on left side, two on my right tied together with a gear tie. And my platform off my back. I’ve got loops on everything that I just clip into small S biners on my saddle.

When I take the two off my right side and take them apart I just put one back in the biner and keep climbing.

though if I switch to one sticking it’ll still stay on my back but thetwo extra ones will come off the saddle

i saw in another thread you are using the Kuiu pack. How do you have it loaded?

I had one of these with my previous platform and completely forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder!

Had a 550 cord loop on my platform that I would attach to a biner on my saddle. Too floppy. Now carry it on the side of my monster pack. Secure and easy to access

I’ve had it on my pack(without the bow), but had to raise the bow. I have it hanging on my saddle with just a small paracord loop and this hook from EWO. I could feel this clip against my hip, so I moved it back to the center. I have everything attached and carry/walk in with my one stick……I may put a hand on the platform to keep it steady and take some weight off the belt while walking.

I found raising the bow is a no go! Unless you can keep your pull up rope out of the briars, you’ll have a mess! Seldom do I have a perfectly clean tree base to start from. I remember my first real climb. Getting up wasn’t too bad with 3 sticks, lineman’s belt, no problem! Then the paracord and briars got into a fight, with my bow just an innocent bystander. By the time I had my bow, there was only one arrow left in the quiver! I started cleaning base areas, but I no longer set anything on the ground til it’s time to come down so I don’t bother anymore.

I hear ya there, we have barberry that is so thick you can’t even begin to get through it. If it’s at the base of a tree it’s gotta go…

What @bfriendly does is what I do. I have a small 550 cord loop on my RR and just hang my platform off my saddle with the same j hook that he has. Has worked well for me so far. When I’m ready to rappel down I just drop my platform and recover it once I’m on the ground

I have a clip like that from my old RR, forgot it until now, will have to give it a go

I run another set of shoulder straps on my Mission Put it on over my pack The extra straps are not even noticeable Set my bow down Hook it to my Strapper Climb the tree with my bolts Set my platform Tether off Step on Hang Pack and pull up my shooting iron LOL Man does that sound like a lot when you type it out But it usually only takes men 12 to 15 minutes when i am trying to be quiet

Still new to this but it has worked for me so far. I made some double loop holders from paracord with just big enough loops to fit over the versabutton easily that way I can clip them to my saddles molle loops with a s biner and I can attach my extra steps or my platform to my self that way as I go up the tree. They will also let you easily hang a extra step from another step rung as you climb up to free up your hands as you climb. I have been attaching the platform to one of these and then clip the other loop on the s biner and hang it right in the middle of my back and it has worked great so far.

I was doing this for a while, but I also have 2 ROS steps on my platform strap. I was dropping it and cringing each time…..this is how it could crack, but not be noticeable! I knew it was a bad idea, but kept doing it for a while. I now make it tidy and put it back on the hook and wear it down…..still gingerly dropping my stick though

Predator platform on the outside of my pack. I walk in with it like this. I have bungee cord loops with balls attached to the pack to hold the platform. I climb with the pack and can release the platform at height without removing the pack. I have 4 of these bungee loops. They are paired and one of each pair has the ball removed. So, the ball of one attaches to the other loop. Works great.

If your wearing the platow pack you can strap your platform when your on the ground on your chest and do your climb and when at height lean back and pull off your chest and attatch I use clips attatched to what ever pack I’m running and extra bungee with the balls to keep it flat to my chest that way I’m not taking pack off or reaching up and over to get at it. I have used the genesis clip but since I have no ass I some times hit it with my foot as I’m one sticking so I don’t use it

Me too for the last two years. Hook my Predator to it and up the tree. I don't wear my pack up the tree either. Too much shift in center of gravity while climbing for me. My pull up ropes are paracord.
