How High in the Tree Were You When You Killed Your Biggest Buck?

Right at 20 feet. Prefer lower if cover is available.

The question was about biggest buck... not biggest horse. What a bruiser!!

Crazy but my biggest I got from the ground. Sat in the tall CRP because there weren’t any good trees around. Somehow it worked out. I credit the hunting public for giving me the confidence to even try it.

second biggest was 18 feet up.
I love THP!

10-12’ high, thick tree though. Probably pushing 36” diameter. I used it as my cover.

On the ground. Was checking coon traps after school and it was the second day of gun season and I packed the 20ga.

About14'. 10 yard shot with longbow. You can get too high and skyline yourself depending on the timber.

We have one stand in a 20" white oak about 13' up with honeysuckle all around it. We lowered it enough to put our legs below the brush so we're just a half of a human sitting there from the deer's perspective.

I always look for that type of set up. Killed my 8 out of a tree like that last year. Only about 13 ft. high. They can't see me getting to the tree there or smell me if the wind is right. Close to a perfect set up. I have to snip about a foot off the top of the pine in front of me every year though for shot clearance.

I was alot younger, and can't quite remember exactly, but I think I left part of it tucked into the tree bark.

I was in an exposed, limbless tree. When that happens, I get as high as possible with my climbing method. It was 4 Tethrd One sticks with a 1 step carry as you go aider. I got around 20 feet to the platform. I have felt more secure much lower. I've been 12 feet up nestled in branches and felt more concealed. Let the cover, shooting lanes, and other factors decide. My minimum I'll go is 8 feet. In a climber, I won't go over 30 feet because it starts getting too scary.
