It cant hurt for sure. I dont even wear camo anymore just earth tones, and havent noticed a difference. I hunt public in MD. Never hunted maine so cant compare but it gets hit pretty hard. Just had 2 bucks walk by me this morning at 12 and 35 yds. Neither one had a clue.I'm just saying it's a lot easier to wear gloves and a face mask so that you don't have to be so careful with your movement. It helps to put the odds in your favor. When are you most likely to get picked off by deer? When your moving to get in position for a shot and drawing on them. Correct? Oh, I also live and hunt in Maine so both the head wear and gloves keep you from freezing your ass off during hunting season.

I live in central Wisconsin and hunting pressure is very high. Hard to get spare tags cause they are gone like hot cakes! IMO, deer can’t concentrate on looking in every tree for hunters. They wouldn’t make it very far as far as travel goes and it would make them venerable to ground predators, as they would be too busy scoping trees. If height was an issue, I’d go higher, but it’s not. Control your movement when you see a deer approaching, and more importantly imo, control your scent. If you were filming, then yes, I’d go higher as you will be moving more. If not, why go so high? Save the energy for the drag out!
I missed a big 3.5 year old (lots of trail cam pics of this deer) last year, chased a doe straight by me. He ran directly under me. I yelled 4 times before he stopped and that was at 36 yards and my arrow hit a limb I didn't notice in the chaos. That is a good point and a good way to save money. You don’t need Camo to blend in as solid earth tones work great! They sell cover suits too...thin fabric. I can wear my super warm striker ice suit that is normally loud as heck, put a fabric suit over top, and walla! There’s your Sitka outfit hahaha! Nice and quiet.
i do this if the canopy is to thick and i gotta be on the ground. I do think camo matters if you are on the ground 100%. thats a different ballgame. i actually bought a bunch of fabric fake leaves off of etsy to sew into mine to match the area better. works better than a ghillie depending on the area. i think a ghillie might be a little more versatile but ive never owned one. its just a little extreme on the public i hunt. theres alot of people on the trails especially on saturdays. sometimes on my way out i like to stand close to the trail and stay still to watch how many people just walk right by haha
