Was in a great tree this weekend, but terrible to climb, Big diameter with a weird small curvy extra trunk running up next to it with zero clearance / some fusing in two spots. I’m whipping a linemans around the thing trying to catch it with an arm pushed through the clearance with the small trunk, knowing if I fall with tether slack I’m going to be hanging there with my arm wedged between the two trunks. I tried to stay tied to the letter of the law incrementing the tether down above me. About a half hour down.

If I feel like being neat and organized maybe 5-10 minutes.

Usually Im just cramming everything back into the pack, rappelling down and busting it out of the woods. So i can get down and head under 5 unless the pull down rope doesnt want to work.

Do y'all really spend time repacking layers? It's tidy when I head in. Who cares on the way out? Cram it, lash it, whatever is handy. It's coming out for a spray down at least before the next hunt right? Gear goes where it goes, proper. Layers I don't give a rats fanny, probably changes for tomorrow anyway. Reconsider and repack before the next hunt

I repack them the same way they went in. Any jackets are taken off as one layer, folded/rolled and stuffed back in the pouch of the turkey vest I use as a pack (cuffs and collars down to keep them dry). The layers are positioned to keep the stick pushed to one side so it doesn't bang on the bow when it is slung over my shoulder. If they're not wet and conditions are to be close to the same the following day I don't even have to move them for the following hunt. FWIW, keeping them all nested together allows me to put on my upper layers all at one time as opposed to having to put multiple jackets on once in the tree at the beginning of a sit.

Just out of curiosity are you a scent spray user? Dead downwind or whatever your flavor is. I use it but I run warm and figure it can't hurt but I'm not sure it really helps either

Nope. I do wear scentlok but don't put a lot of faith in its ability to contain my scent. My current scentlok is 8+ years old It only gets dryer treated once a year (beginning of season). I also don't typically wear it as my outermost upper layer. My outermost layer is typically a wool/windstopper of some sort. I try to pay more attention to wind direction for setting up and pick my hunting destination based on expected wind conditions. FWIW I only know of 2 instances this year where I was winded, i.e. snorted at in 54 sits so far this season..

I'm working on doing the same, playing the wind and choosing where I go based on predicted wind winds. I'm with big Mike though, those they don't seem very accurate lol

My vest pulled out of the bed of the truck where I put it after my hunt last night. Exactly how I'll carry it in tomorrow morning with no changes. Two nested jackets and a wool vest in the pouch.

We're going to need a full presentation on how this works at the next meet up. The rest of need some help ;)

You one sticking with the Hawk?
For like 4 or 5 years now. It's a DIY modified original long helium. I made it before the short ones were available. I cut it off, changed the bottom step locations, installed a Harken 150 cam cleat and 6mm Samson accessory cord as an attachment method. It also has a single step webbing aider attached around the bottom standoff. Why update what works? :tearsofjoy:

I tried the @boyne bowhunter vest pack a few times. It has some advantages and a few disadvantages. I liked it early season when I didn't need much. Rope and platform in the back storage. I had a hard time getting the platform out of the vest at height. But honestly didn't practice it before hand. Just tossed it in and went. I liked it when I hunted with my daughter. She used the pad as her knee pads. I had mixed feelings on the comfort level and extra space at my knees it took up. It didn't work so well when in a bigger tree and crooked. If the tree was strait and not to big I liked how you could kinda wrap it around the tree to make it disappear some. My complaint about a backpack is it can add to the large object in a tree thing where the deer seem to key in on. I will use it again for sure. But not all the time..
But as @Horn said. I tend to vary how I am gonna hunt each time. So the name of the game is get back to the truck and shake it out in better light. Try to give everything a quick re inspect before re packing.

I should make it clear that the pad I'm referring to is not the bulky seat pad. I remove that. The pad is simply the sewn in padding in the back of the vest.

Not having timed myself I'd guess 5 minutes but I never timed myself to poop either!! It is a little frustrating standing in the dark with bow, pull up rope, 4 sticks and ropes, ROS, all on the ground to clean up. Going up seems so smooth for me. Everything comes out one at a time and onto the tree. That's why my Pac Seat is so inviting, Pick it up and walk to the truck, But I love being in the tree....

I’m 5-10 with a 1 stick. Important to have a routine, and look around every now and then if its the end of a morning sit at the base of the tree. I came down 2 weeks ago after a morning sit, and had i stuck to my routine, would have had a chance at a large buck that came from nowhere. I decided to leave a preset paracord, something i don’t do often…i got caught fiddling with gear, heard a loud blow, giant buck bolted, had snuck within 15 yards At my 6. The little noises we make packing up sound like a deer making a scrape, so get your bow ready first thing down, and take a peek around every now and then.

I’ve shot a deer this way(not big one).

And I’ve shot two with my lineman’s belt around the base of a tree about to ascend.

I agree with your idea that they come to investigate.

I always dread having clothes/waders that i wore yesterday in the truck and putting them back on the next day. Any dampness in them at all and you're going to be cold until you work up a sweat again.

That's why I pack the upper layers both ways, no sweating in them. It was dry out my last hunt so the outer layers are still dry. If it had rained I would have taken them out and dried them.

3-5 one sticking, 5-7 multiple sticks

I stopped carrying rappelling gear last year as it wasn’t advantageous.
