How many deer have you killed?

32 years old
Started hunting deer around age 27
FL and WV
9 deer killed, 1 gun 8 bow

How old you are -40

When you started - 37

How many seasons - 3rd in process

Where you're from/where you generally hunt - WI - hunt an even mix of public & private

And how many deer you've killed - 6 so far. 4 bucks (2 gun, 1 crossbow, 1 bow). Both does taken with a rifle.

First season using a saddle and first shooting a bow as well. Hooked! If I wasn’t homeschooling 4 kids I’d be out every day of the season.

A month-old thread but I found it interesting so I will add my 2 cents.

49 years old

I hunted on and off since I was maybe 8. I missed a lot of seasons with school, work, etc. I rifle hunted when I was younger. I would say I have taken a dozen or so with the gun over the years.

I started bowhunting seriously 11 years ago. I am hovering around 40 with the bow. I still need to take my first deer out of a saddle. I hope to make that happen before the end of this season.

I’ll join.
im 38, started hunting when I was 7 with a gun. Quit when I was 18 started again at age 36.
all with a rifle. 42 but mostly young bucks and does. no bigger than a 3 ever. All with a gun. Brown it’s down. All in Georgia on a lease.
Now only public land WNC 95% bow and missed 4 and no kills since I started back.

So I'm 37... started hunting when I was 31 living in North Dakota... got my first buck with a rifle that year... moved back to FL for a few years hunting one of those... not interested in ever hunting in FL again... I think it was 90 degrees all that week and I hung my kayak up on a gator in Picayune Strand... nope... no more... I've hunted with a bow 3 years in MN so far and I've got 1 from a climber and 2 from a saddle.

How old you are - 29

When you started - 10 years old

How many seasons - 19 in process

Where you're from/where you generally hunt - Maine/ ME, NH, Nantucket Ma.

And how many deer you've kilt! - Around 40, not home to count tag rings. Usually 2 - 3 per season and that number goes up the older/more experienced I get.
6 in 2020 and 8 in 2021 adds another 14 to this number. ME, NH, OH now. Actually shot 12 this year but took home 8, the stories are in the Team 8 Thread.

So lifetime # around 54 now.

I don't want to turn this into a competition, but I'm really curious.

I just added every one I can remember up and so far I'm at an even 20. For a broke 25 year old I'm not too disappointed, but I definitely want that number to go up. Of course, I killed my first when I was maybe 7? So I'd like to think I neglected a doe or two. Sometimes mine and my dad's kills run together too since we hunt so much and I clean the majority of his deer lately. But I know for sure I've accounted for 20.

Let me know:

How old you are

This might be a fun summer post!

I have never killed a deer outside of Alabama and hunt primarily public, btw.
I’m 61 and killed my first at age 12. I’ve hunted every year since then. I keep a record and update it at the end of every season. I live in Tennessee and hunt mostly near home, although I have spent quite a bit of time hunting in Kentucky, which is only 3 miles from home. I’m not as focused on a real trophy as I used to be and just want to enjoy being able to climb trees to hunt and bow hunt as long as I still have the physical ability to do it, by the way this was my first year to saddle hunt and I fulfilled my goal and killed a doe from the saddle. Oh I almost forgot my total lifetime kills are at 119. 4 this year.

I'm currently 33, now in the shadow of 34... I started deer hunting in 1999 (I was able to turkey hunt in the Spring of 1998) at the age of 10, which is the minimum legal age for NJ and the age of my first harvest. I've never missed a season since then. When I lived in NJ: I hunted the archery seasons with the compound, muzzleloader seasons with an inline, and shotgun seasons with either buckshot or rifled slugs. Preference in that order, as well. Now that I live in PA: archery season with the compound, rifle season with a centerfire rifle, and primitive/late season with the compound. I started hunting PA about 5 years ago, when we moved to where we now live, and I've only harvested 14 deer since 2017... In NJ I hunted about 75% public and 25% private land, and now in PA it is 100% public.

So, to tally it all up, it gets kinda gray lol... Looking back at my half-a$$ records: I'm somewhere North of 120 with the compound, 36 with the muzzleloader, and 11 with the shotgun. Final tally puts me above 167, currently, and I'd say less than 185!

To put it in perspective: I hunted 3-5 days per week (morning, night, or both; depending on school/work) from 2006 through 2012. The other years it wasn't quite that much, and it will never be as much as I want to! To put it lightly, NJ has liberal seasons and bag limits (often split into zone sets with individual harvest limits), and I took advantage of it (I didn't pass much if it gave me an ethical shot opportunity). We ate every single deer that we harvested, as well. My family ate about 18-20 deer per year. Me, my wife, and son don't need as much and I have become much more selective in my "old" age, too.

I've killed three deer from the saddle, so far!

70+ mostly bow, bow hunted Mi, Wi, IA, MO, KS, KY, OH, MO, IL.
age 50
living the dream!

Update. To the best of my knowledge, I'm sitting at 48 deer as of this morning.

As the numbers climb I see the advantage of keeping a journal. The bucks on my wall I remember vividly, but the bucks who didn't get their horns mounted and all the does kinda get fuzzy. The past 3 years have been tremendous and I feel blessed to have learned a lot.

Today's doe came off of a property I'd never looked at until last week. Walked it 2 days with the muzzleloader in hand scouting. Missed a hog the first day and killed one the second. By then I'd covered most of the square mile section I wanted to get familiar with and had a good feeling about a spot. Sat it and saw 3 does. Shot one, dropped her in her tracks, and had her quartered and deboned on my back before the muscles had stopped quivering.

The whole process has gotten a lot smoother, less stressful, and more rhythmic. There's still plenty to learn, but I feel like I'm over a hump I desperately wanted to be over when I was in college. I definitely recommend folks to shoot as many deer as they feel they can. I've read and watched and listened to a lot of "content" and had the pleasure of picking the brains of a lot of good guys, but nothing has honed the edge like the real deal.

I'm kinda hoping to add 2 more deer this season to bring it to an even 50. 100 is definitely in sight!

How old you are - 32

When you started - 10

How many seasons - a good bit with some dry spells due to military and work.

Where you're from/where you generally hunt - Louisiana and I only bow hunt public land

And how many deer you've killed - first deer was a doe at 11 with my recurve went dry until 15 got 2 that year with a rifle and that’s the last time I hunted with a rifle. I didn’t hunt at all from 18-25 due to military And 26&27 from living/working out of country, picked back up at 28 and every season since then including this one that just ended and all together I have 12 (3 trad, 2 rifle, the rest compound). But hogs vastly outnumber deer kills, definitely over 200 and all with a bow.

Started deer hunting at age 15 in 1997. I’m 37 so coming up on 22 years. Got semi serious in my early twenties. Have been very serious the past 7 and have been 95% archery the last 7 years. I think I’ve killed probably 75% of my deer in the past 10 years

44 total (that I can remember, I expect there’s a dozen or so that I can’t recall right now)

Florida - 12 bucks 6 does
Georgia - 11 bucks 7 does
Kentucky - 3 bucks 1 doe
Ohio - 1 buck 1 doe
South Carolina - 2 does

Haven’t been in many clubs, lots of public land

Best deer were a 150, 142, and a 134, from KY, OH, and GA respectively

Hopefully this coming season I’ll get to add a couple more to the total and they will be saddle kills

Update- since I wrote this I sat down, went through old pics, and created a log of approx dates of kills. Ended up with 50 at the time I wrote the original post.

The last 3 seasons were good. Killed 15 more over 3 states, 8 bucks and 7 does. Was most happy to help my 12 year old kill 3 this year! Nothing better than that.

Now I’m trying to be more tech savvy, transferring all the paper log onto spreadsheets to more easily document info. Started one for my son as well. Also starting spreadsheets for each hunt of the season to track patterns better.

So current total of 65. Sad that season’s over, ready for the next one already!

I'm 53 and have been hunting since I was 12.In Pa you were only allowed 1 deer per year until 1987 or 88.You were then able to get a bonus doe tag and today it's almost unlimited.I've lost track of how may deer I've killed but it's well over 150.Nine years ago when my son turned 7 I put the majority of my seasons on hold to mentor him.We hunt almost exclusively on either public land or land owned by timber companies and open to the public. It;s big woods, contiguous forest with no agriculture or food plots.I still killa few deer a year but he kills way more than I do.I've lost track of how mnay deer he's killed as well but I know it's well over 60.

36 Years old.
Started hunting at the age of 12 in Ohio. Mix of private and public land.
I had a 4 year hiatus when I joined the Military.
Now I live in Wisconsin and hunt all public.
Around 20 seasons of hunting under my belt.
Never been one to count my harvest but at least one a year, some years 4.

Another update to bring this thread back to life

How old you are: 31
When you started: 10ish.. I'd say I didn't actually start hunting hunting til I was 24

7 antlered, 17 antlerless
5 private (2 antlered), 19 public (5 antlered)

How old you are: 40
When you started: Around 13 for a couple years, then started up again around 25 or so when my uncle gifted me a compound.
How many seasons: Close to 15 give or take a few years here and there I didn't have time
Where you generally hunt: Mix of private and public in MI. Grandma has 10 acres we hunt, and lots of public land available nearby.
And how many deer you've kilt! 2

1 antlered (last year, shotgun) and 1 Doe (2 years ago, muzzle loader) both on public. I spent a large portion of my hunting life waiting for "the one" trophy buck and had lots of opportunity at smaller bucks and doe, finally just wanted the meat in the freezer and pulled the trigger. I shoot archery too, just never took a shot yet...been close a few times. I harvested a black bear before I ever got my first deer which for some reason feels kind of backward.
