I'm in NW Indiana.....the whole northern part of the state is one giant food plot up here. I've seen some monster 1.5 year old deer that are almost that size and many 2.5's that are quite a bit bigger. The key to me is the lack of mass...especially at the bases but I know nothing about southern deer?

In the mountains there’s basically no ag fields. If you ever see a small field it’s a pasture with grass for horses or cattle mostly. They feed on natural browse and mast crops. So basically acorns and leaves. But definitely older than 1.5 years. I could see 2.5 but I’m leaning towards 3.5 for around here. It could also just be my excitement to see anything other than a for sure year and a half old buck on my hunting property.

Thanks for rubbing it in....lol

And yeah 2.5 was my first thought too. Based on relative straightens of the back and the neck only going down part way.

This is a standard year and a half old buck. He has an average or slightly above average rack.

Sorry man wasn't trying to brag at all. That was just my attempt to point out the regional differences of deer in the US. And trust me, it gets old real quick looking at miles and miles of flat cropland with small fragmented woodlots and fencerows! Nice deer are about the only good thing here anymore :)

That’s awesome. I hunt Georgia and would say that’s a 2.5 year old deer. Looks like you can examine the teeth and tell for yourself now.
