how to silence Harken Standard Cam-Matic® Cleat – 150

I've wrapped a piece of 14 gauge wire around mine. It keeps the cams from hitting their internal stops.

Sweet, I've got extra 14 gauge laying at home. Gonna have to try this tonight

Please test the heck out of this before you get too high off the ground. I know it works for Boyne but I tried it on mine and it did not grip my rope tightly enough and it slipped right through the cam. My stick slid right to the bottom of the tree - luckily I was testing it 2’ off the ground and still had one foot on the ground. But I couldn’t trust it after that.

I ordered from here, it is in Texas and I'm guessing the site he was referring to. However, I have had slightly less luck then he described as I ordered yesterday and have not heard anything yet on shipment date.

I’m awaiting shipment but he told me today or Wednesday. If I don’t see something tomorrow I will call him and give an update here. But he did verify they’re in stock.

Yup, tested it last night, 14 gauge seemed way too thick for me. Got a hair tie from the wife and that's working perfectly.

I finally got my two KJ3 cleats. They come with hardware, but longer may be necessary for 1in sq. alum tube.
I haven't played much with them, but so far don't know what the fuss is about. They are quieter, but not silent the cams do make contact with each other when no rope is in there.

They are built way better are you crazy? Use them on the stick like you normally would and tell me they aren’t quiet. They have a 550lb working load.

Finally tried the KJ3 BREIFLY... I agree they are quieter when pulling the rope out, but I think some of the reason is the rope is a bit easier to pull out, more so once the tension is taken off the rope... this is not preferred by me, yet... Once I build more trust in it I MAYBE could grow to like that the rope comes out easier... remains to be seen. I obviously, don't want it falling down or off the tree.
I disagree slightly on being built better. Just my opinion, but hear is my stance on the KJ3 with comparison to the harken cleats - the KJ3 has open access to those components you say are built better. It's wide open with lots of room to get dirt and debris in there. I prefer how the harken is more enclosed.
Also the KJ3 requires a button head screw which the supplied one is too short for 1in square tube. I have access to socket head and flat head cap screws. The socket head works with thr KJ3 from what I can tell just fine. But that slowed me down for a sec.
I bought two and one of mine might be going back. The lower cam is tighter on the one. I know not to overnighter these, and I had to wait for it, but I'm assuming maybe someone else overtightened it or it is just defective. I haven't had problems with any of the 10 harkens I've used or the shafers either, which both work best with the flat head screws.
I have an open listing for the harken 150 cleats so I might also be biased, but not really I can simply say I prefer the harkens... so far. I really don't like that dirt an sh!t can get in there pretty easily.

Never even thunk about this subject, but never like that ding! Thanks for the post. First glimpse of the kj3 in photo made me think WOW, it’s a tank! But I have to agree with @Chrighton ’s review and assessment.……I think I’ll just silence my Schaefer for now.
