Hunting Beast Sticks

Saw a post today on the Hunting Beast Forum Facebook page. Stick release is delayed until about September 20th. Not sure if im ready to take the 80$/stick dive yet anyways.

Feel the same. Every time I see they're about to release I give my wallet a good rub down then they release and I get trigger shy. If I hadn't got WE stepps I think I'd be getting some this go around but after having the stepps and a knaider/swaider I really want to make them work. They're just SO much more compact and lighter for the height I can get.

Compact...true! Lighter.... not so much.

4 WE stepps and the k/s is what, a little over 4 pounds? I can get 20+ feet with that. If I hooked up continuous loops to the bottom of beast sticks to also use a k/s I'd still need at least 3 sticks (probably 4) for the same height so at least 6 pounds. 2 pounds isn't something I'd fret over but when it also comes at the expense of bulk I struggle to see the advantage besides being more comfortable currently with sticks.

If I wasn't trying out stepps or decide they're not for me... I'd be 100% in.

It’s going to be a bit. You could make a fortunate if you posted some used ones on their forum. People don’t want to wait.

I’m not being rude but I don’t understand the fascination with these sticks. I tried my buddies and I like my Muddy and Hawk sticks better

I think it is the weight. For all the sticks I have used and use, I always come back to my muddy pro sticks. Perfect length, love the cam cleat with super ease of use, steps fold up, standoffs can pivot, double steps. Packs nicely. I have updated to 8’ rope and can get into large trees.

The downsides to them for me are: a little slop on steps if I don’t retighten bolts on steps semi-regularly and the 3lb weight. I have been running 4 and a carry as you go aider to get me 18’ to top stick. That is a little over 12 lbs for getting to height. And to be frank, as the years go by, I am liking less and less the whole aider nonsense, especially coming down in the dark. I got rid of the ropeman last year, I am hoping to get rid of the aiders this year.

To stop aider use and get to same height, I’d have to use 6 muddy pro sticks at 18 pounds total. If I get beasts and use versastraps, I can get about the same height with 5 sticks (2 pounds each) at 10 pounds total. That is a very substantial weight reduction.

I am really not a weight weenie. If my hike is not too long, I’ll embrace the suck of transporting their weight to enjoy their use at the tree. But my hikes are not always short. And I don’t anticipate my fitness levels to increase as I approach my golden years.

I am anxiously awaiting the 2 pound sticks without needing mods. And I will willingly pay for 6 of them.

If Dan would make them with the cam cleat at 2.25 lbs, i’d pay double and enjoy paying double.

Just my take on it.

And I have used the hawk helium’s. Not impressed, OEM or modded.

Give me an out of the box stick at the beast stick weight (2 lbs) with 18 to 22/24 length and I will be all over it.

Let me preface this by saying I’ve never had hands or eyes on a beast stick.

When I first saw $80/stick I was like several of y’all and couldn’t believe it and thought people were crazy for paying it so I built my own sticks. Started out with double steps from @DanO the mano and LW offsets. Well the LW offsets don’t offer a lot of room for my size 14’s and that led me to find the big offsets from Dano. They’re perfect and a lot like the Beast offsets.

Then one day I did the math....

Versa Button from LW $5
Double steps from @DanO $12 x 2
Offset bracket from @DanO $20 x 2
Mounting bolts from @DanO $1 x 2
Woven daisy chain strap $6
1” (1/8” wall) tubing free from a buddy

Well that puts me at $77/stick and I’m getting the tubing for free.

I love the sticks I make and I’ve made several for friends, but it gave me a whole new appreciation for the Beast sticks. More power to Dan and God Bless him for pricing them at $80 and staying with that price when he could easily get more for them.

And with all that being said I took delivery of a new set of Muddy Pros today, it’s a damn illness I tell ya!

I hunted Tuesday afternoon and this was my mirror as I pulled out of my yard with the boat in tow.....

Let me tell ya, one sticking in that heat will send you running right on back to multiple sticks, lol. I bought the Muddys mainly to hunt this one spot because the approach is by boat and the walk in is short so carrying that God awful 12 lbs is a non issue and because the forecast is back into the 90’s for the next 10 days.

As long as these temps stick around I think I’ll be using the multiple sticks. Versatility is the name of the game.

Some of my new muddy pro sticks the steps are hard to open. Do they get easier?

My muddy are quite old. That said, I do tighten the bolts on either side of each step. That makes them “stay more firmly closed”. I would think they would loosen in time. Or you could loosen them a smidge.

Having owned both, I prefer the Heliums. I like having folding steps and they are less than a pound heavier for three sticks. You do have to mod heliums but it only takes about an hour.

Beast sticks not having folding steps is my only concern for them.

I can see your point of 1lb difference. But I am looking to ditch the aiders and am anticipating carrying 5 or maybe even 6 short sticks. That adds up in weight and bulk. Don’t know how I am going to deal with packing the beast sticks with the steps.

I changed my straps to versa straps on my beast sticks with aiders and they come in a 2 lbs a peace. I Carry 3 to get around 17 feet high. At slightly over 6 lbs.

I use one wei step with a ladder aider on the bottom. step is around 6-6.5 ft high -im short can't reach much higher and tie knot. Then 3 homemade 2ft sticks gets me around 17ft then another foot to platform. If I want to get higher I have amsteel continuousl loops on sticks and can use knaider to get another 5-6 ft as I dont like to stretch for knaider especially in the dark. I made a dozen sticks so on my private a lot of the time I'll just take down the platform and the bottom wei step and aider since bottom stick is around 8ft less chance of casual thievery. And I can have a couple spots ready for super quick hunts if I'm running late getting into the woods.

Those sticks are sick! I was torn between them and the new LW compacts... got the LW’s and haven’t regretted it for a second!
