Hunting Hoody

No, I swear I look at their website every single day. I sent them an email asking about wind blocker in the verdigre. I did receive a really quick reply, which was good and rare. I was told that they didn't want wind blocker in the lighter weight stuff and that by nature of the fabric being dense it is probably 70% wind proof anyway. Wouldn't probably notice it until 25-30 mph or so. It definitely has my eye.
I have one arriving in the next day or 2. I’ll let you know how it seems.

Haven't actually weighed it but it is pretty heavy.
Thanks. Watched a couple of videos on youtube. Seems like a nice piece or gear. (Looks more like a heavier "parka" than what I think of when I hear the word "hoodie" - which is probably why they called it an "anorak".)

Oh yeah. This fits squarely in the I-wouldn't-think-about-wearing-this-around-the-house-on-a-Saturday-after-the-season-is-over category. That's what the new Nomad Durawool hunting hoodie I bought from @GCTerpfan is for! ;)

Dang it red that hoody was supposed to be too big for you and come my way after! Lol I'm jealous

Rivers West Men's Isolation Waterproof Windproof Fully https://a.co/d/cWf2pPh

Anybody got experience with rivers west jackets?

Was thinking about the ambush jacket but this one’s half the price. Says it’s wind and waterproof and should be a good outer layer over some insulation.

Any thoughts?
I’ve been hesitant to post because I wouldn’t call this a review but rather first impressions. Seems like an excellent product, very high quality, but I am going to return it.

Here are some thoughts-
For reference I am 6’1” 230lb

I wear XL for almost everything but I thought it seemed a bit snug. I think I would be fine wearing it alone but I wouldn’t be able to layer anything under it. I was expecting it to be a bit ‘softer’ like a fanatic jacket but instead it was more ‘wooly’. It turns out the Hoody uses a slightly different material than the warmer garments COS offers. After receiving it I looked closer and it is clearly noted on their website this is the case but it just wasn’t what I expected. What I liked the least was the lack of stretch, which again is perhaps to be expected with wool but I’ve gotten accustomed to First Lite and everything I own had a lot of stretch and I never feel restricted. This was the first thing I noticed and what I liked the least.

I could see a lot of guys loving it. It’s got tapered arms and seems it would be quite warm. I hate to give a bad first impression to an upstart company, but those were my initial thoughts. I’ve communicated with the owner and he seems like an awesome guy. I’d recommend reaching out if your interested.

let me know if you have any specific questions and I’ll try to answer

I wouldnt call that a bad first impression. The piece may not meet your needs but that is a problem with online sales where you cant handle something before purchase.

Agree. But the nice part is they have no questions asked free returns so they do make space for people to try their stuff

Camofire has the Kings camo Anorak on there today, I couldn't resist and ordered one along with the XKG Bib pants. Hoping to have a bombproof late season system with those two pieces

I have an older set of Rivers West jacket and bibs (15-20 yrs.) that I would recommend with out reservation.
The nice thing about the outerwear is it is quiet, (fleece like), stretches a little, wind and some what water proof.
I layer up underneath and know I will be comfortable all day.
The newer stuff seems to have and additional insulation incorporated into the material.

I got the jacket and have used it a couple sits. It was dead calm those days and that thing is pretty loud. If I moved it crunched. Maybe with more use it’ll quieten up or with more wind it won’t be bad but I won’t be using it bow hunting for now.

I only ever use it gun hunting, but maybe because of age it has "quieted" down.

almost all the rivers west stuff has a waterproof membrane....hardly any stuff with a membrane is quiet because the membrane makes noise inside the jacket.....i don't know if anyone has invented a waterproof jacket that is quiet that isn't waterproofing because of some scotch guard-like spray

Decisions, decisions: Sitka Ambient Hoody vs FirstLite Furnace Hoody?

Maybe I need to buy both.....but that would require a trip to a mortgage broker! LOL

We have a new competitor. I wish I would have waited on my origin hoody.

Men's Furnace Hoody | First Lite
I have a Furnace quarter zip and the matching boot cut pants with zip up sides. My favorite merino for mid to late season.

I grabbed the Ambient Jacket to try it out. Furnace hoody will likely be much warmer than the Ambient hoody. Ambient hoody/jacket is a great walk-in piece. Keeps a little bit of heat, but wicks away sweat.
For someone doing a good deal of walking I’d definitely go Ambient over Furnace. If not, I’d roll with the Furnace. Both will be layering pieces unless the temps are really mild and no precipitation.
