Hunting Incident

My experience wasn't quite that bad but other other guy yelled that loud. I couldn't believe it. The deer that were 100 yards away moved 300 yards away.

In the parking lot before my hunt, I met a guy coming out who said he was just putting out a trail cam. He asked about my saddle and I offered to let him climb. He said another time since he didn't want to take up my hunting time. I told him about saddlehunter.com and he asked me my handle. He said he doesn't really hunt there till late October and puts up a fixed stand. It was a really nice start to my day.

Meh too short. Had promise of a good monty python skit.

You never do this crap to trappers that hunt. See we have this product called Hellfire(and similar lures) and we are immune to the smell of it... though we do store it in ammo cans as the women folk tend to get annoyed if we're around it.
Ouch, you are a sick, sick man.
Store bought or sold online?

I was thinking, I have a wrench for tree stand removal but Jesus told me "don't even think about it."

If there's a trapping convention in your area, you can find it or similar there... your mailman or UPS driver will hate you if you order it online. Sometimes it triggers the drug dogs.

I was bear hunting out in the bush in the U.P. of Michigan one year got set up over my bait and here comes the DNR officer. He asks for my license and I lower it down . You just never know who will visit you when hunting on public land. I primarily hunt my own property and it too has it's own set of problems that can occur with neighbors and poachers . Sounds like you did the right thing by not getting belligerent and remember a kind word turns away wrath.

Got him to his spot before light and set up and then I headed off to hunt deeper, in a spot I like. I was super bummed to find out from my dad that a guy came by mid-morning claiming my dad was "in his spot," which he "had been hunting for the last 20 years." There was no reasoning with the fellow, who proceeded to walk past my dad every 10minutes until my dad eventually couldn't take it anymore and packed up.

This is the unfortunate side of people being, well, people. There are folks that will act that way anywhere you look, not just in the woods. I'm sure the majority of folks here have a story that is similar.
I know i have come across a handful of these encounters. I once had a hunter dang near quote the "his spot, been hunting it for 20 years" line. I got into an area pretty deep an hour before light for an all day sit. I accessed by canoe, and i only use a small pin light, so i wasn't exactly looking for anyone's tree stands, but i ended up setting up within 50-60 yards of an old rusted out hang-on with a broken cable. around 7 oclock, a guy comes bumbling in and sees me, proceeds to start yelling, "hey, yo, hey, fella, your hunting my spot" as he is walking closer to me. I politely wave and kinda turn away from him. he walks right up to my tree and begins to yell quite aggressively that i need to move as this was his spot, hes been huntin it for 20 some odd years. all i could say is that i made it there first, its public land, i had as much right to hunt it as he did. well that didn't sit well with him, he walk a couple of yards away, took a pee, lights a cigar and says, well since its public i can sit right here then........

I'd be seeing if I still have the stream strength to arc one next to him. "Better to be #$#$#$ off then $%&#@$ on" sorry buddy just marking my spot.....

I accept that these things will happen on public land. A ladder stand is not a placeholder. Whoever is there first gets dibs. I would just move on and set up elsewhere if I saw an occupied stand where I planned to hunt. That's whats great about saddles. We can set up anywhere at a moments notice.

Yeah, I'm fortunate to have my private ground. I probably wouldn't hunt if I had just public ground and these types of issues to deal with.

That's a real shame.

I've come to expect it. I'll never be at peace with it, but do you really have any decent recourse other than putting up with it?

On an archery only hunt with sign in zones on a military base I had a guy land a boat about 40yds from where I was already set up. I was the first and only to sign into the zone, no other hunters were waiting to do so when I set out to hunt. This other hunter climbed a tree (summit climber I think) 25yds from me. It was still dark, so I had repeatedly shined my headlamp at him to alert him of my position. He just kept on up to that tree and climbed it anyway.

Sure enough a nice buck and a smaller buck come in and I draw on the big buck coming into my shooting lane at 20 yds. This hunter starts grunting like an air raid siren and off they run.

Anyway, the main point of the story isn't my hunt was ruined. About 30min later an arrow flies through the woods about 10yds in front of me. There's no deer around, it's oak hardwoods and I can see forever, nor are there birds or squirrels. There is nothing around but me. The guy then climbs down, packs up, and leaves.

To this day, I have no idea what was going on in that guy's head. What was that arrow all about? Intimidation? Madness? He never said a word to me, just scared off the buck, sent an arrow at nothing, left.

At least in a case like this you can report it and there's a chance someone follows up....but that part is out of your hands. There's no resolution for you.

I won't get confrontational even if I know I have the "right of way" so to speak. As has been said by others, you just never know what's going on in the mind of that other person. Hate for pushy hunters to get their way, but just not worth getting into an argument with someone carrying a weapon.

Be safe out there and good luck with "Ezekiel"

I hate to see another hunter or fisherman. I go outdoors to get away from people. That’s nearly impossible these days. Always got to put up with someone else’s BS. With that said, I’ve walked up on hunters. It’s the worse feeling in the world for me. I feel so ashamed.

Other than just being nosey I never had a problem with anyone I've seen and talked with.....however...the stuff I see that I get mad about is the guys who slash trees and cut down trees to mark their trail...I hunted a public piece during archery 2 years ago and I put my guest in a real good spot...he says he seen lots of deer but never giving a shot. That quota ended and I have plans of coming back into that spot since I had a gun quota in that same block of woods....jump ahead over black powder season and I head in there.... Once I make it back there I see somebody came in there during muzzleloader and machete cut all the brush and looked like the brought a chainsaw out there and cut shooting lanes. On our public in florida u aren't supposed to cut anything or screw anything into the trees.....I was so mad....u could tell right where this character was accessing because of the fresh cut trees, bushes, or anything else that was in his way....dummy was accessing on the upwind side and totally messed that spot up.. .jerk

Today, I was hunting at a state park and I decided to leave at 6PM. I started walking out

heading directly for the parking lot. I heard a loud shout that alerted every deer

within a mile. There was a hunter in a ladder stand ahead. He had walked past

me an hour before and I wasn't sure if he saw me but I stayed quiet. He said

thanks for ruining his hunt and I told him I had no idea where he went after he

passed me. I did not think once that he had ruined my hunt when he walked by

me. He said why didn't I go out further up the trail. I said I'm going to the parking

lot. He tells me its easier to get out up further and then says he will help me get

out to the trail. I tell him I'm OK and don't need help. I said aren't you staying tlll

dark and he said with all the yelling there would be no point. I yelled at him at that

point that he was the only one that had been yelling. He didn't seem so belligerent

after that but I headed out to the trail and back to the parking lot. I guess he's not

used to people yelling back..He came out within two minutes and we put away our

gear in silence. I got in my truck and drove off. I've been thinking WWJD? I will

follow His orders and do nothing to hurt. I think he must have been mad at me

climbing a tree about 100 yards from him. There was an empty ladder stand 40

yards away from me that was between him and me. I never saw his stand until he

yelled. I am not so upset now and will forget it. If I go that way and see him in his

stand I will go to the nearest tree and start climbing. No, I won't but it would be

funny. I guess you encounter all types out in the woods.
I'm confused though...why weren't you sitting til dar o'clock...?

I would have snuck back in there after dark and s**t in his tree stand! :tearsofjoy: Just kidding. Forget about it. You did nothing wrong.....except leaving before legal shooting time ended maybe.
