Actually the BD BOD does have a rated loop in back - I guess I could add a couple other loops on sides with tubular webbing? I was actually thinking about getting one but still not sure I will need it? I suppose a bridge, tether or carbineer could give out and they second connection would stop you from falling but has anyone actually ever heard of a well maintained bridge, tether, carbineer giving out? I never have my full body weight on it as I lean but do not sit in my saddle.

This guy never heard of a harness/linemans belt letting go, but one of his metal D rings decided it had enough that day.

It is a scary thought, falling while hunTing. I try to do more than I actually think I need when it comes to tying off . One thing that scares me (about screw in steps especially) is what happens if I were to fall and slam into them when my tether or safety rope catches me and prevents the fall to the ground. Impaled on a step? Not a pretty thought, and such a fall even with safety rope would likely result in a serious cut. Be careful out there and use your head.

Kenn I guess I missed the part about the D ring being the cause? What kind of safety harness? There is a lot of junk made and put out. I still have not hear of a bridge, carbineer or tether giving out. I am sure it happens but so do plane crashes there is risk in everything we do. But - I don't find saddles unsafe at all or even high risk as we use them. Climbing (which it sounds like this guy was doing) yes - tethered in a saddle - not so much.

That guy didn't even have a lines mans strap on. He talks about it in the video. Even that would have saved him

I feel like a lineman belt with a saddle, even a minimalist one like a Sitdrag, is pretty darn safe. It's all about taking your time, paying attention and focusing on what you're doing. If you do that, apart from a catastrophic gear failure, you'll be fine.

I agree. Gear failure is really my only concern. That's why I say that sometimes I use the tether to climb, occasionally even with the lineman belt. I check my ropes often, but it's still a thought I have almost every time.
I bought some of the 3/8 dyneema rope, but something about it makes me uncomfortable. I know it's significantly stronger than the 9-11 mm rope I normally use, but I don't like it with the rope man. All I could think about while climbing with the dyneema was whether or not that rope would cut easier or somehow be damaged easier with the Ropeman.

I wouldn't use dyneema with a ropeman either. They're designed to be used with climbing rope and I wouldn't want to chance it.

At 44sec into video you see him in the tree with linemans belt around the tree. That was not a reenactment, it was footage from that day. I am friends with his hunting partner, he is lucky to be alive. A metal piece of the harness broke.

Hey everyone I have been looking at sit drag posts for a while and have just 2 questions:
1. Has anyone tried to incorporate a wooden seat into the sit drag to reduce hip pinch? Almost like G2 does with his foam but put the piece of wood in between the sit drag and foam.
2. I have never stitched anything, so when you stick the sit drag into the webbing for molle or straps does it reduce the strength of the original webbing?

1. I don't think anyone has tried a wooden seat. You'd essentially be making a Bosun seat. It would definitely work.
2. If you're asking about reducing the strength of the SitDrag webbing by adding molle loops like I show in my video, the answer is No. Adding a few small stitches won't do anything to degrade the strength of the webbing.

Post pics if you decide to go the wood seat route.

I'm a hard seat saddle guy, but for some reason I keep trying to make a more comfortable pliable seat. I've made many different types of pliable saddles, my last one seems to be the best one I've made to date.

The last one that I made is comfortable, but we'll see what it is like after a 3-4 hours sit this season.
If it isn't comfortable, I'm running right back to my hard seat.
