I’m in - that was expensive

Thanks for all the replies. Most were comical and most agree that my initial setup was a decent choice by the sounds of it.
Trust me, I know things get expensive and I’ve only scratched the surface. A new saddle hunter has to basically jump two feet in..I hope I’ve done that. After my platform and duty costs because all this comes from the US - I will be down close to 1200$. Not exactly chump change for a guy who has never climbed the tree before. That’s all I meant by it ...I know it can get way way way more in-depth. I’m excited for the journey.

Biggest issue I see with new saddle hunters, myself included once upon a time, is the first time up the tree and then again the first time up the tree on an actual hunt. You will be a sweaty frustrated mess by the time you get set up and think you wasted your money. Stick with it and work on your system until it’s easy. It gets easier every trip up. Then once you have a solid system start adding things you think might help make it easier.

I’m somewhere around the $850 range. Probably closer to $800. I’m pretty set for now. And, I spent a great deal of years researching this. If not, I’d be closer to $1500.

I made the jump because I thought it would be cheaper.... I guess I didn't read enough on the forum before I made that decision... :confounded:
But I have enjoyed the advantages of not hunting the same spots over and over.
Thats my incentive and that fact alone makes it money well spent. Being new and cautious on what to buy, a common welcomed thread i read is QUALITY. It’s reassuring to read and watch so many videos talking about quality of a product. Thank you to anyone producing quality products for us to rely on.

I agree with quality. If all we had was RCH/sit drags I would still be hunting out of a climber. My first sit ever was in the DIY rch/sit drag set up. After 30 minutes I couldn't get out of it fast enough. Quality makes all difference in the world. If you're comfortable you can hunt all day long, enter the TX5.

The true cost is not the money, its the time it take to setup a second checking account to hide your lunch money so you can save up for another gear that you dont need just so you dont have to get that dirty look from your wife.

Next step is the peer pressure to get a sewing machine and make your own saddle, like all the cool kids.....

My EX-wife was like that.......true story, I didn't eat lunch for darn near 3 months, got a nice new bow, arrows, set it up. When she saw it the fight sucked all the joy out of that purchase, even though I sacrificed for a while to get it. There were a mountain of other issues, but needless to say, she gone (and good riddance).

My now wife has zero issue with the hunting gear I acquire and is a saint.

Who did her taxidermy?

10 years ago i spent 300 on a trophyline 300 on climbing steps.alot for a poor man but so worth it .you will never find some dude drinking beer and smoking weed in your stand.......far more expence in setting others up or just showing them a good spot.a stand is there for a reason .harvested a rosivelt bull under a famous stand that has been there 20 years at least.just sat on a log and called

I feel your pain. Im new to the saddle hunting game also and i jumped in with both feet. I havnt even been in a tree yet and i already have my saddle, 2 platforms, 2 sets of sticks, 4 sys haulers, and everything else needed to hunt. Im already planning on buying another set of sticks and two more platforms as soon as theyr available. Im also interested in trying the one stick method so ill be buying all the stuff for that too.

I’ll agree there is an upfront cost, but saddle hunting is going to completely change the way I am able to deer hunt - think long term investment! This is coming from a 33 year old single father.
