Nah I was hoping you’d be bringing me one! Bwahahahaha!!
I love brickseek but sometimes there quantitys are wrong or the people at the store hide them and won’t sell them until there buddies get paid!

I'm going to be the dissenting voice and say I like my Ruger 10/22. I've owned one in one form or fashion since boyhood. Every one I owned has been a tack driver. There's a stupid amount of mods for them and the aftermarket is ginormous.

I'm watching this with interest as I've had that naughty feeling for a squirrel rifle here lately also and have been considering the 22 mag or the .17....
If you're looking at a squirrel rifle, and don't have a good, bolt-action .22lr, get one of those first. My interest in the bigger calibers is because of hogs. .22lr will kill any squirrel that can be killed, and to be honest I've killed plenty of hogs with it toom

Since you're more interested in shooting hogs and such I'd go 22 mag all day long. It's my favorite caliber overall. I have a cz 512 22 mag that shoots amazing with hornady 45 grain ftx ammo. I've killed about 50 hogs with that round and have yet to have one take a step. But if you go squirrel hunting you can get some 30 grain cci and not be as expensive and still deadly on squirrels. Or can even get some of the winchester 40 grains subsonic rounds for your 22 mag which basically makes it a 22lr. The 17hmr are awesome for target shooting and long range shooting squirrels, crows, p dogs and what not but I'm not a fan of them for hogs myself. I've killed hogs with them and I know lots of people that do. I prefer the heavier bullet myself. But most of the hogs I shoot are under 20 yards, usually being barked at by a dog. I have killed some hogs and coyotes out to 100 yards with 22 mag though, it's all in shot placement.

Not sure about him, but the hogs I've killed and have seen killed with a rimfire were all shot behind the shoulder, low and tight. I was surprised with the first 80lb show I shot that way. She made it about 50 yards and wadded up. I've seen them DRT with a .17wsm behind the shoulder.

Not all. I prefer to head shoot, just because in a situation where you have several hogs bayed up, if you can kill them dead with no squealing you can generally shoot 3 or 4 before they scatter as long as the dogs do a good job of staying in front of them and barking, but no grabbing. Doesnt always work, but thats what I try to do. You can thump a surprisingly big boar hog through the lungs up above the shield through the side and kill them. A 22 mag is alot more lethal than you'd think, one of the biggest hogs I've killed run out at a dog and when he turned to run back I shot him about the last rib through the spine and broke his back. Quick follow up head shot and he was dead.

Here's about a 120 lb boar I killed one morning, head shot at about 10 yards.

@Nutterbuster I bought a Savage B-Mag in 17WSM and love it. I was after something different and bolt action, this nailed it. It has the heavy barrel so it is not the lightest and I put a Boyds Pro-Varmint on it. That round is something else when it comes to ballistics, I cannot fathom why people I know or have talked to even bother with a HMR or Mach 2. I have no trouble finding ammo and I stick with the 20 grain ammo. That setup with a decent Nikon and a bi-pod up front not only makes me laugh like a school girl when I am going 100yds or more, but looking at that setup makes my pants fit funny.

True on the 22lr - I've had many over the years...bolt and semi auto...currently have a ruger 10/22, and several bolt actions...Been a squirrel hunter since I was very young cause we didn't have deer then and so I hunted squirrels...Just been thinking it would be fun to own a more powerful rimfire just for the fun of it cause I like to shoot :mask:....Seen a comparison on youtube between a 22lr and a 22 mag shooting an iron frying pan....the effects of the 22 mag on the frying pan compared to the 22 lr was basically no comparison - that got my interest...We don't have hogs here yet, at least generally speaking, but I would like something that would give me a little more range for coyotes and could use on squirrels too.....

I hear you. Up here in the country it'd be nice to have something to take care of 'coons, possums, 'dillers, 'yotes, and mangy old strays. .17 or .22wmr is more adequate for that kinda varmint.
