Dude you may be in luck!! I’m pretty sure all ammo for this cal will work but they do sell a17 17 hmr ammo for this rifle

I was going to buy a Savage A17 last year but the $400 was a little too much. I decided to stick with my single shot Thompson/Center Contender 17HM2. I bought 600 rounds when I first bought the barrel about 10 years ago since I figured it might not last. Ammo is still available although limited. I bought some more last year. It shreds squirrels and hardly makes a crack.
17 HM2 gutted squirrels.

I hope you're right about the price. I drove 30 minutes to an unpleasant part of town and forgot to verify the price. Waiting on them to fetch it from the back.

I have a cz 22 mag and a 17 WSM b mag both will shoot better than me. You will be head shooting from 100 yds I take them to Saddleplooza every year but haven’t killed a pig with either yet. I bought both of them specifically for pigs and wanting to hunt the rimfire zones.
Edit : looks like they are sold out all over they were marked down to $99 crazy cheap.

I love my Marlin 917v. Did a trigger job and full action bedding and it shoot 20gr CCI Gamepoints in a dime at 100 and can hit drink can bottoms at 200. 04A9EDD4-47E5-4901-8169-BA66C358CF68.jpeg

I'm watching this with interest as I've had that naughty feeling for a squirrel rifle here lately also and have been considering the 22 mag or the .17....
