Okay so I know the uploaded pics are huge but I don't have a lot of time to play with them right now. Also, I am redoing that horrid stealth strip job, it was just done to see if it would fix issues. That being said, 90% of the noise from the Safeguard comes from the pivot pin in the hinge. Picture #3 you can see I used one of my daughter's small elastic hair ties to get under the pin and essentially make a bushing with it. Between the stealth strip material and the hair tie I can literally shake this thing like a maraca and it doesn't make a peep. Super stoked because my main concern with rappelling was the noise from the SG.

Good luck this season everyone, hope this helps!

Please don't take this as anything more than constructive criticism but Pic #3 is going to cause you all kinds of problems. You've wrapped the stealthstrip directly over that are where your rope will be pinched by the cam to cause friction and won't last the first few feet of ascending or descending.

I honestly don't find the Safeguard to be real noisy. Every noise that you can make with it can be alleviated by slowing down and making calculated moves. Once your weight is on the device it's silent. Let the lever down slowly and it won't click.
Like almost every video you see where guys are showing off their cam cleats....jamming the rope into place with a "pop" and ripping it free with a loud "click". If you open and close the bottom cleat with your thumb it's absolutely silent.

Agreed with comments above. I put hockey tape where you have stealth strips and it made the safeguard very “jerky” to rappel with and the rope contact wore the hockey tape leaving a sticky mess. Took it all off after first rappel and now just have the carabiner wrapped.

I just put mine on the rope before I walk in the woods and slide it back up when I hit the ground at my tree when done hunting. Makes no noise that way.

Hope everyone taking these apart, modifying them, adding tape, rubber, things that can get caught realize that these are all tested and designed to very specific tolerances and specs. Any of these additions or changes could cause failure or unintended consequences. Anything put on a surface that pivots, or contacts a rope could alter how the device performs....

Add to that all the people using under spec rope diameter and you've got a recipe for disaster.....

^^^ This!!!

I tried my Kong Slyde on 8mm rope (rated for 9 through 10mm) and it zipped right through that sucker...
I'm glad I was testing/learning it at ground level or Id'a been toast!

Wet oplux with a safeguard makes for an adrenaline pumping rappel!

Once I installed the band I removed all the stealth strips! I guess I should've waited to post pictures but I knew it was going to a PITA to get all the residue off so I just snapped pics. My Bad.

I agree but that thin hair band will give before the SG fails. My SG is back to naked besides the band now.
