This is 1 unforseen side effect of learning how to hunt that I do enjoy....learning about native plants. I would have probably never researched these kinda things otherwise....

Laurel oak maybe. I'm not familiar with them but reminds me of pics I have seen if I am remembering the right oak.
 
Any chance it’s the type of persimmon that grows in dry areas?

Around here (Central FL) we say sand hill persimmons or pasture persimmons and they are in cow pastures, open chops, etc

They are different than the persimmons in the lower swamp areas
