If there’s acorns, they’re probably on em

Just a reminder… I happened to put a cell cam on the right oak flat this season. There’s deer on that camera all day long, mainly dawn and dusk but always some midday munching. It’s a tricky place to hunt but I’m going to try this Saturday, there’s no other location right now with the same action, by a factor of like 3X.

Looking like my area wont have the drop im expecting but none the less will definitely be sitting evenings 20-30 yards from a white oak dropping that sweet deer candy!

What state you in? White oaks have not started dropping here in Arkansas.

SE Louisiana. We do have some whites dropping already but im not sure if Ida had an impact at all on the mast. I did a last minute scout trip a few days ago to check trees that would have acorns and didnt see what i wanted to see....water oaks have def been dropping and they'll hit those too, just not over the whites.

White and red oaks have been dropping and I have watched them change from early dropping Reds to now hitting the dropping whites. I’ve said this before but it amazes me how fast they will switch when those whites start dropping. Clearly they prefer them

Tuesday I checked a cam on a small urban spot I got permission to hunt that has a stupid variety of mast. Willow oaks and water oaks are dropping a few green acorns. Whites, northern and southern reds are not dropping yet. Persimmon are a week to 10 days probably before they are dropping.

Headed up to my buddy's place after work to try to chum up some does to whack. We need to thin the herd a good bit this year. Went a little too light the last couple of seasons and need to knock 'em back some.

Update here… we have a three acre field with quite a few red oaks around it and wow have they been digging through the snow and hammering em. There’s one spot in front of this cam that has been getting torn up multiple times a day for two weeks, I have no idea how there’s an acorn left there, maybe it’s some kind of natural cocaine in the soil. Yesterday on a doe hunt my buddy videoed an awesome encounter with the property’s alpha male headed into the field just before dark - lucky for me my friend is already buck tagged out. Don’t write off the acorns yet… past week has been a new ah ha moment for me. Never solve the puzzle but it’s fun to find more pieces.
