Insulated Hiking Boots

My birthday present came in today. Most expensive footwear I’ve ever owned. But should last me many years.

Got my Meindl comfort fit hunters in a size 14D, as recommended by Meindl. Too narrow. Now I have a high arch, and I told the guy at Meindl. Anyway sending back and will try 14ee. Great return policy. They pay all the shipping costs.

Did your boots seem a little scuffed up here and there when you got them?

No perfect. Need to treat them before I take them out in the woods. They look so nice new, I could wear them to the office if I still worked!!!

All they ask is you wear them in the house, do not remove any tags, just like you were in a shoe store. If they dont fit, they pay the shipping both ways. I wanted to order a pair if uninsulated comfort fit boots, but they are no longer on the site. Will pick out something else. Everything I ever got made in Germany has been top notch.

Thanks.

I just got mine tonight, and I'm thinking someone had tried them and returned them. They're not beat up, but definitely some wear that I wouldn't expect on a premium boot...definitely not looking brand spanking new like the Hoffman's did. I'll call Meindl tomorrow about it.

I guess I'll give a first impression, for what little that's worth, of these compared to the Hoffman Insulated Explorer 400s, in case anyone in the future might be looking into these boots.

1. Meindl Comfort Fit 400 feel warmer than the Hoffman 400s
2. Meindl Comfort Fit 400 are a much less stiff boot
3. Meindl Comfort Fit 400 have a wider heel
4. Hoffman Insulated Explorer have a more precise build

(5.) Meindl Comfort Fit 400 have a footbed with a longer arch, which was more comfortable (to me)
(5a) Hoffman's left boot was perfect for my left foot, the arch was too short for my right foot.

Generally:

The Hoffman boots had a bit of a "ski-boot stiffness" underfoot but the uppers flexed naturally and significant forward rocker encourages forward motion. Despite the stiffness, they felt more plush than the Meindl.

The Meindl are a boot you can tell what to do. The flex enables that, but also allows pressure on the foot to shift some, making them a bit more fit specific imo. In my case the fit is decent. I ended up using their printable brannock form to comform sizing, and it was helpful.

I've heard of folks wearing boots on treadmills and stuff to feel them out. Idk what the deal is with this pair. Again, they're not beat up per se, but they have some things going on that surprise (disappoint) me.

I appreciate your feedback though, so I've a better sense of it when I call tomorrow.

nice, almost pulled the trigger on a pair on camofire last week.....but i'd never dealt with returns through them, if the sizing was off

what's the sizing like? i called them and they told me to get an 11 wide, when i usually wear a 12 wide in danners, lowa, and almost all athletic shoes

Scheels was great. I actually exchanged via mail for a different size. No added expense.

Meindl Comfort fit? Or Crispi West River?

Meindl Comfort fit

So here's my experience.

I got measured for running shoes in December. Sized 13 approaching wide according to fitters read on Brannock. Ended up with 13 regular sneakers. They fit great.

I decided to try the Meindl printable Brannock based on recommendation from @TexaninSconny. Wanted to see how I measured with boot socks on.

With my heaviest socks, I was maybe a hair over 12.5. I was definitely measuring wide, amply so, according to the tool. I ordered 12W, which is 1/2 size down as per their recommendation.

The boots arrived and they are the correct length and width at the forefoot.

They have a generous heel, and a little more volume in some spots than I'd like. But I fill them out in length and width perfectly. Probably that shim that was mentioned would improve fit for me.
