Ok all, what is the one piece of gear that made your season? Only one, the one item that you could not have gone with out? It doesn't have to be part of your setup.

Mine, unequivocally, is my diy one-step aider. It served as much more than just my additional step! Once, I forgot my tether because I laid it out to dry after hunting in the rain, so i untied my aider and used it as my bridge.

I'm interested in hearing what piece of gear would make or break a hunt for yall?

I can't fathom how people ever hunted effectively without GPS. Yeah old timers, I am great at basic navigation. I can not get lost, follow the north star, yada yada. I don't need one by any means at the family land I grew up hunting. However, huge difference between not becoming castaway and precise navigation on some vast laurel flat I've scouted once or twice then 18 months later I'm going in there in the pitch black. The fact that I have a little 3 oz handheld computer that can stay on precise entry/exit routes and get me within 15 feet of any tree I whimsically mark in my scouting.....GAMECHANGER.

Danshuntinggear boots with deployable hip waders attached, both frogger boot and lacrosse snake boot.

Danshuntinggear briarproof shirt.

Peet Boots/socks/gloves drier.

Stone glacier xcurve pack frame and cabelas pack frame.

Smartphone with Gaia / OnX GPS app

ball compass, so I don’t always have to look at app (and as backup)

Ezkut Ratcheting pruner.

Wiggys lamilite socks.

The one piece of equipment that made my season was my Juki 8700-h. I made every saddle I hunted from. I made a wraptor I'm going to test further next year. I made aiders, swaiders, and knaiders. I even made a small hand muff that attaches to the riser and keeps my bow hand warm.

This next year I'm going to Branch off and make some more cold weather gear.

I would have to say my garmin gps or huntmaps. it all depends which one i am using that day.

a close second would be my scouting log book. it is a storage warehouse for every spot i've hunted/scouted and info about them.

Slomo tree/accessory strap:
Made my life so much easier in the tree, made hanging my pack, jacket and bow a breeze. Forgot it once and had to wing it getting my stuff strapped to the tree. Quickly realized how dependent I had become on it.
I know you asked for one but a close second would be huntstand, especially after they upgraded it with the 3d topo map. It has been indispensable in helping me scout potential properties without having to bug the land owners. Helped me pick up a property I otherwise would have ignored that has turned out to be one of my best properties yet.

I'm going to be part of the cliche here and say my saddle.
I bumped a buck in a crp field this year. Scouted around the area and 2 weeks later I hung my saddle in a tree 50 yards from his bed that was way too small to put up a lock on and I took that buck. There's no way I would have been able to be where I was without a saddle.
It also opened up a new style of hunting for me. I am looking for public to just walk in and set up. I'm not scared to walk all those miles anymore. This idea of lightweight and the drive to build my 4 lb ladder system to accommodate would not have happened without it. It also helped me find this forum and interact with all you people this year.

Since everyone is saying GPS, which I agree with, I'll go with the $25 fleece heated vest from eBay. That kept me in the field multiple times, especially when I killed my biggest buck in a snow storm. Can't wait till my heated socks come in!

Which one did you end up buying?
It took a month to get here, but totally worth it
