I agree with the OP 100%.

He was not complaining about people joking around, talking and having conversations.

As an example try doing a search for Mantis delivery and then tell me when it’s going to be delivered. Good luck. Try a search for fleece saddle. You can go on and on. I’ve now started going to the Tethrd Facebook page to keep up.

I’ve now stopped going to the “Secret” thread because I’m not going to learn anything there. The discussion is between only a few people who seem to know each other. Read this clearly; I’m okay with that. I don’t feel left out or get my feelings hurt, it is perfectly okay. But for some reason that thread seems to hold the information for the progress of the Mantis and Predator. That info is now impossible for a new comer or someone who doesn’t frequent the site.

Please keep up the good hearted joking, jabbing and all the other fun stuff! I frequent quite a few forums and I have stopped going to almost all of them because of the cocky, prideful, selfish attitude that seems prevalent on most of them. I enjoy this one.

Having said that, it would be nice if we could establish some sort of a rule when we start a thread that might be really informative to label it in a way that would make it a discussion only about whatever the topic is.

What do you think?

I agree with everyone here. There's a fine line between SH.com being a useful resource for Saddle hunters and a community of online (and offline if you go to SaddlePalooza) friends. Sometimes those two ideas fight each other.

I'm not smart enough to know the answer.

As this site continues to grow I see more and more people coming on here wanting fast answers and complaining to quickly (very similar to our society in general). My advice is for new comers to saddle hunting to join in the conversations and try to make some friends here before complaining too much. Not aimed at anyone specifically, just a trend I have been seeing for last several months as saddle hunting and this site is gaining popularity. There are some great guys on here and most are willing to help - but we must keep in mind it is all FREE; they do not OWE anyone a fast and direct to the point response.

Also, keep in mind that season starts for some in 2 weeks and the rest are busy getting ready.

I completely understand what you are saying. We get one clutter free thread per year. Deer contest submission. Red has to work pretty hard to keep it on topic. The best advice I can give to someone starting a thread is if you post pics don’t wear funky shoes. Try not to have any vehicles or cats and pretty much anything else in the background. The secret thread had pretty much taken on a life of its own way before the updates started. There is a lot of innovative ideas born through this site. With all these creative imaginative minds it doesn’t take much of a distraction for things to go off course. There could be a sticky for the mantis and predator and someone could moderate it to keep it cleaned up. Then you would have to do the same for new tribe and the new guidos company. At that point why not do it for all the climbing gear manufacturers. The off topic banter has been increasing lately. I’m not sure if it’s the nervous energy from the anticipation of new gear or the comradely built through this site and gatherings like saddlepalooza.

I've not been around here too long, but it was pretty easy to just start rolling with the punches when I got here.
This site has been so informative in learning how to get a homemade saddle around, what's the best ways to get into the trees, different kinds of ropes and knots. It's an endless fount of information. And the way that they these guys bounce new ideas off of one another is amazing!
I really don't mind the banter and joking, it really lightens the day reading through some of the threads!

Maybe at the beginning of each person's post they should declare "this post has nothing to do with this thread, and is for entertainment purposes only!";)

If it wasn’t for the off topic comments, I wouldn’t be here. It is a community, not “Instructables”

That means inside jokes, nagging, picking on each other, distractions.... but it also keeps the innovators interested enough to be a part of it all. Instead of doing it themselves and never getting online to share it for the benefit of other people.

Completely agree Ike! This place is different from other forums and that's what I love about it. There are inside jokes everywhere and if you've been around a while it's pretty entertaining :D We go off the rails a bit but there's great info to be had around here. I don't want this forum to be like ArcheryTalk where nobody can take a joke! Half the fun is making fun of @huck72412 !

Here's something I don't and never will understand. Why do we need to share the same information in 5 places at once? SH.com, SH facebook group, twitter, instagram, etc...
That is just my personal example but it holds true for all topics and social media. I just don't get it and I hardly have time to keep up on here anymore let alone multiple other places.

Probably the same reason my wife shops at CVS, Dollar General, Publix, and Piggly Wiggly...all in one friggin' day! Me, I'm happy to shop at the local country gas station. They sell Miller lite, conecuh sausage, Dawn dish soap, toilet paper, and Alpo dog food. Everything else is a distraction.

I may be missing the point but you will undoubtedly find me on top of Mt. Rushmore riding on the back of a brontosaurus rex before you will find me on Facebook. So if I can't find saddle hunting content on Saddlehunter then I'll just have to miss it.

I don’t. I drew the line at FB. I have several hunting and fishing forums, motorcycle and cars and then FB every once in a while. The problem is, they will just keep coming out with new stuff to take up your time, and I ain’t following just because everyone else does.
