It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

You’re using the EZV! Good luck

Love the sight. Have about 1000 arrows through it. Still not 100% confident at longer distances because I shoot heavy arrows and margin for error is slim. 0-40 I don’t think twice though

That’s all well and dandy, but how will it fare in 90°+ weather?

Temps were touching 77-80 degrees for half that walk, and for setup and the evening hunt. I sweated a little walking and setting up, but it was pretty dry too with the front passing through. Once set up I was fine.

You’ll be hard pressed to find me hunting in 90, but I may suffer through to give a good review of it. Honestly, you’re gonna sweat walking or setting up anyway. But if you can sit in a 5.00 woven lawn chair in 90*, you can sit in this. The guidos wasn’t even an option I’d physically overheat. This thing breathes really well

I need to sell some gear to fund that purchase! I looked at the jx3 site and there were no options for different sizes. Is it a one size fits all/most? Any options available?

$saddlehunter effect!

I am definitely interested in your review, especially if you can compare it to the original GW.

Thanks!

Right now there’s one size. I’m 6’3, and it fits me just fine. I’m narrow, so I could probably have the seat 2-3” narrower and slip through thick cover easier. But that’s just me being skinny. Also, that was considered, and all the edges of the seat are covered in the micro suede type cloth. Very quiet in woods no metal edges or buckles or anything catching on stuff or clanking.

He’s going to be looking at options and add ons and accessories. It is incredibly modular. I personally prefer to accessorize myself, but I think folks who like to plug and play will have what they need available or included.

A video overview would be AWESOME ;-)

That looks like it has a pretty handy Bow holder. Make sure that you include that in your review! Thanks Kyle. Time to start selling excess equipment to sock away for a new purchase.

Sorry guys, I intend on doing a good review of the hybrid, and a comparison to the web. I attended LSU UGA, so I don't have much of a voice. It will probably come later in the week if I can find time and be able to speak clearly!

Well guys, I think I broke YouTube trying to get this one uploaded. No idea what happened, or if it works. This is a quick overview of the new hybrid. I’ll get to a tree in the next several days to give some perspective on the function and comfort.

In the meantime ask me any questions! I love this thing!

Also, Sophie says what’s up Saddlehunter!

It looks awesome. Thanks for the review.

It really is. I'm going to try to get in a tree in the yard to show this thing in action soon. Really looking forward to getting some more tree time in this thing. I'm pretty sure I can set this thing up to where the only thing I have to do at base of tree before I start climbing is clip bow into hoist. May even be able to strap bow on and not use a hoist but I have to do some tinkering.

It would be really nice to just start climbing in mild weather. Obviously it won't matter in cold weather because I'll be layering up at base of tree.

Awesome review. I am looking forward to the video in the tree too.
And I thought I was done with hunting purchases for this year.
Time to put some extra gear up for sale to fund this!

Thanks Kyle!

Same here. Wife won't be happy but man that thing looks like gun season heaven!

Don't love the weight increase but might be worth the all day comfort increase. I know some say comfort shouldn't be prioritized and I get that. But if I don't stay in the stand I can't shoot a buck when he comes rutting through. Early season is different. I'm only hunting am/pm travel times and 3 hours is easy to deal with discomfort. 12 hours plus during the rut requires careful comfort planning to stay at it and focused.

Incidentally, what do you do with your feet? Same platform options as with regular saddles? Dangle? Top of stick/step? Other?

What is the weight?

I'm calling it 10lbs. I need to step on scale with it, as it's a guess, and what I remember John saying it would come in around.

It is a complete departure from a minimalist saddle. It can't fit in a backpack, but it can BE a frame pack.

I hunt in places where I refuse to drag a deer out. So a pack that can handle my climbing method, film gear, platform, cold weather clothes, and still be able to haul out quarters or deboned meat is a requirement for me. It's why I went through 15 packs trying to get that dialed in. The hybrid performs that function beautifully, and is also my saddle. You could use a big fancy platform, but I sat for four hours on a couple strap on steps, and it's more than enough. When you factor in the couple pounds you drop from not needing a fancy backpack/platform, you're probably only a few pounds heavier than a minimal saddle setup.

Friday I went in the woods with 30lbs total of gear. If I had used my kestrel, and a more comfortable platform, in my MR popup 28, I would have been around 25-27. Not a world of difference really.

Nice review! I liked the Guidos Web but also felt it was too hot to use until late in the season when the weather cools off. Looking for forward to picking one of these up next season after some bills are paid.

Ok. Time to sell more gear to make room for this new toy!

Gosh I am a sucker for a shiny new toy and the suggestive sell!

I am not being paid, and I did not receive a single penny off the asking price of the hybrid. But I'm pretty thoughtful and consider what will fit my hunting style best.

Look - it's back in a similar footprint to a hangon. The weight is there. But the comfort, functionality, multiplicity, and the ability to keep the tree between you and the deer(I promise a tree video is coming) is what sold me.

I received mine last Friday and was able to get in a tree with it a few days ago for test run. I talked with John afterwards to review and give him my initial thoughts. I will be doing a full review as well in the coming days, but this thing is just awesome. I really like my Kestrel but the new Hybrid is on a whole other level. It is one of the best thought out and well engineered things I have seen in a long time. Johns attention to detail on this build is second to none. (I also have not been paid and paid full price for my Hybrid)

Not sure what Kyle does, but I have 2 Stepps on either side of my top stick. Not as important because you do not need to put pressure on your feet to lean or sit. Only time I stand is when stretching or if I stand up to shoot (which is not always required).

Any pressure points around the edge of the seat on your legs where, presumably, there is the aluminum frame?
