It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

I'm fiddling with a jx3 right now. Taking me some time to figure things out. I need a small pack for a ROS and my bolts. Probably get some sort of molle attachment and/or repurpose a side carry type bag for small items.

I started getting the idea behind this "reverse" system yesterday as I tinkered. Best way I can explain it.
I really like the JX3 pack system for this. The bino harness has a built in compartment on the back for bolts and drill. It's right next to your chest for easy access while climbing. Once you're in position the bino harness unhooks from the shoulder straps of the hybrid and has a built in tree strap to hook it around the tree.

For me the JX3 is an precarious equation. Almost 14lbs bare + hand climber seat at nearly 4.5lbs = about 19lbs.

LW Sit and climb combo = about 19lbs.

I can't figure a better number for the JX3 where I hunt (no bolts).

Still, the JX3 fits me well and I'm working with it.

I didn't realize the JX3 is that heavy, I thought it was around 10 lbs.

The newest version doesn’t use the military molle frame. It’s a custom mold specifically for JX3. Has a few features the molle doesn’t and is beefier.

That, and rated metal buckles, add up to the weight difference. If I remember correctly the first generation, as shipped, was 11 or so pounds.

I've never tried the JX3 but it seems to me the way its designed, it would probably carry better, perceived weight compared to a 13/14 lb treestand...just a guess on my part

You would be guessing correctly.

I’ve heavily modified mine (another thread on here), but even as stock, it’s an easy carry.

Nicely done video on the JX3 Hybrid. He says he'll do some more on pack system and other components of the system.

Everything I've attempted to share with folks over the last few years, condensed into a simple, well spoken instructional video. Props to that fella.

Everyone wants to compare it to something, with the idea that it is comparable. It's not. It's a different thing. And needs to be considered that way.

Once you've taken that framework on board, it starts to make a lot more sense.

I watched this last night. It's a nice breakdown. Should be posted on their site.

I agree, this is a great plug for JX3. He does a great job going over the basics.

It would be interesting to see someone demonstrate shooting a longbow or recurve from the JX3.
I'm planning to watch the above video regardless

Not a recurve or longbow, but he just put out a video on shooting a compound from the hybrid.

There are several decent videos of this in the guidos web, which is the same concept and a gooc comparison. Heres a couple:

Skip to about 9 or 10 minutes before watcing this one--I love the practicing at tennis balls at random spots--a great exercise.

Is there anything that can be removed from the JX3 to lighten it (tether and linemans excluded)? For example, if there no interest in the ability to sit on the ground could some components be removed?
Thanks.

If weight matters to you, buy a gen1 hybrid.

Cut metal off fork plate, remove ground chair standoffs, remove mesh from molle seat frame, swap belt to the front, get shoulder harness that offers padding since mesh is gone, remove hook for seat.

You should be in the 10lbs range. Mine with load lifters, exo belt and harness, and all the doodads removed is exactly 10lbs.

Thanks. Once you removed the hook for the seat what did you use to keep it closed up?

Piece of cord girth hitched around fork. It’s about 18” long. I have a Prussic/metal hook on it. Use cord to pull seat folded up and the cord over shoulder. Slide prussic until hook grabs on front of shoulder strap. This holds it in place for climbing and assembly before and after hunts. I use my bridge loop tightener I sewed on to firmly hold in place.

Can also use existing leg strap/upper back buckles as a way of holding it all up for transport.

I'm really looking to increase comfort and I'm torn between the JX3 and trying a LWCG .5 as a hybrid saddle platform. Anyone have experience with both?
Thanks.
