It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

I want John to figure out the JX 3 ultralight. Somehow reconfigure the seat to make it much lighter, but still rigid enough to support the tree fork. The tree fork is an absolute must have. Shaving 3 - 4 pounds off it would be a game changer.

I like the original molle frame. And there’s ways to remove material if you’re willing to diy and assume all risk.

I think the limit is 9lbs for little people, 10-10.5 for husky fellers.

Wild edge stepp, with the perch or something like the JX3 top step.
.
Ya, great call with the WE idea. Just need a tweaked wide top that fits it. Didn't think of that.

I also wonder if @Mgaris at OOAL can cook something up that includes the wide top, with some basic welded attachment like on a Podium or Ridge Runner. Gotta be a reasonably light version possible. 1.5-2 lbs .

I’m with you on the molle frame. I like the backrest as it is, but was wondering if the seat frame could be made of a lighter material and still support a tree fork.

I’m excited to give one sticking a try. I’ve always used two separate paracord gear ropes. One for my gun or bow, and one for my pack. I’ve never liked climbing with any additional weight on my back since it makes it much harder to raise the tether as I climb the tree using the LWHC. Since I’m hopefully switching to one stick, is there any reason I can’t use my rappel rope to hoist some gear to keep me from using two separate lengths of paracord? I see most guys stow all the extra rappel rope in a saddle bag, which I would definitely be doing after pulling up all my gear and getting situated in the tree. What am I not thinking of?

I use my rappel rope to haul my weapon sometimes. Works great.

This is how I get my pack up to me. works great because the rope is bigger and easier to pull up with the weight of the pack

For the guys using the JX3 wide step top as a platform or one-sticking, have you had any kickouts when stepping on the ends of the platform bar?

None so far. I'm mostly putting light pressure on it while seated and using the tree fork to maneuver, but I have also stood and leaned and walked around to all angles and I noticed no issues. I didn't jump up and down or do anything extreme mind you.

Remember there are 2 posts not one so the leverage out on those wings is less than on a normal 1-post stick.

I have had zero movement of the stick while using it as a platform. Sometimes things just work. Maybe I’m lucky. Maybe it’s just that good.

But I get the rope as tight as I can, and pull down on that sucker to set it, and it doesn’t budge. Probably 30 or so sets on all types of trees.

My JX 3 stick will arrive in a day or two. What is the smallest diameter tree you have used it on. I’ve got a small permission spot near my home. It’s only a few acres, but borders some Federal property where there is no hunting allowed. Tons of deer. My challenge is the few acres I have permission on is mainly thick young pines and poplars. There’s a few 8 - 9” In diameter, but most are smaller.

Any changes for me will be next season, and while I’m also considering the rope only methods for next year… one low key thing I like about the JX3 stick is that if I ever slip on the linemans etc. I think I’d rather slam my thigh into the JX3 stick, as opposed to a Beast stick for example. Everybody has their own criteria, that’s started to rise in importance on mine.

Man this weekend was amazing with the JX3. I feel after 2 seasons with the hybrid I have everything dialed in. One sticking with the EWO ultimate one stick has been the game changer for me personally. Friday I set up in two different set ups and killed one of the biggest does I have ever seen with my bow. Then Sunday for our MO gun season two more set ups and killed a nice buck locked down with a doe. My sets were between 10 foot to the last one about 30 feet high. Both days all day sits with a move early afternoon, the JX3 is so comfortable and capable.

congrats

I think I am getting ready to go to the light. Waiting for a deal.
The thing I'll say is, if you try it, don't give up before trying it with the JX3 wide top stick. So much better than a ROS or other sticks or platforms.

My exclusive season continued with the rifle opener this weekend. Hiked way back, up and over a mountain trying to escape crowds and find good buck cruising territory. The Hybrid hauled my Fanatic coat and bibs pretty well. My shoulders were feeling it by the time I found my set, but once settled I thought "What shoulders?" It was a crazy comfy full rut sit. The deer didn't cooperate, but I was comfortable waiting for them. I just gotta get that head rest so I can really fall asleep.

The 1-sticking routine with the wide top is like butter now. Tether to the right side. Stick rope on an angle. 2 hands on the stick posts while climbing the 3-step aider. Easy peasy.

Man, I gotta learn this one too.

Spent some solid time leaning in the Hybrid this weekend, in addition to the standard and crazy comfy sitting mode. If you slide the seat up your legs a bit the Hybrid works almost exactly like a soft saddle when leaning. It helps to extend the backrest way back before standing. A great change of pace, and easy to pivot and maneuver to look around, change vistas, and of course adjust for shot angles. When you want to sit again simply slide the seat down your legs and let that magical fork eat. Adjust backrest as needed.
Lean or sit. The Hybrid does both beautifully...especially with the wide top stick platform.
