Its official!

100%. If that's someone's dream congrats! But I couldn't think of a worse job for the hunter. PA game Wardens make crud pay. Their peak season is when I want off the most. There's too many nonsense laws I couldn't in good faith enforce.
Or you can be a PA state trooper. Make double the money, get off during peak, arguably easier to get in considering the class sizes. Theres no comparison imo.

I hear ya! In hawaii we are state police, game warden, and deputized federal agents. We do everything. I got lucky and put on special ops to so my job is never boring and I'm making a good chunk of change compared to my state biologist job. Best part I get to spend my work time looking for poachers and following deer movements or flying around ripping out plants. Never a dull moment!

It is always great to see when determination, hard work and sacrifice pays off. But even more impressive is the tireless and usually overlooked efforts your wife and family put into making your dreams come true. You are a blessed man to have such a devoted family!!!!
Congratulations and Be safe!!
She is a God send! While I was in training we had to fly out to another island every week only being home on the weekends to spend 2 days with our family for the whole training. I was able to fly back and be home for new years when the stars aligned and my wife went into labor with our 3rd son on the 2nd. I was able to be home and birth him at our house with just me and my wife! It was pretty surreal as the next day I had to fly back to training for a week. She is a hammer holding the fort down with a 4yr old, 2yr old, and a new born!

Congrats! That's a serious commitment for you and your family. May it prove to be everything you and your family are wanting from it!

Man, that's great. I bumped in to a couple of WA conservation officers; their gig was saltwater marine resources rather than inland enforcement... maybe a different agency? But they both had houses on the water, with Service-issued boats and jetskis tied up to their docks... I'd imagine that you'll have a similar situation in due course. I'm very envious!

Although I agree the PA trooper position paying more, they also have to deal with a lot of BS that the COs don’t have to worry about. My buddy is a Federal CO and although he complains about the money, the retirement is great and he spends every day in the woods… a lot of it just scouting for his own benefit! Lots of cool night ops and essentially works around his hunting schedule. Probably one of the best hunters and woodsman I know and a lot of it has to do with being outside day after day.

do what you love, it isn’t much like working, just a different outfit while you are out there.

Without question, being a warden is a job of passion and love. But there's 1 thing I like more than loving my job mr-krabs-loves-money-edxuufygem39jqop.jpg

What’s the fine for shooting chickens? Asking for a friend…..really.

Technically

None....if you get a permit, homeowners may trap and remove wild chickens on their own property so long as they adhere to local animal cruelty laws. Can shoot em but just gotta make sure you don't shoot your neighbor's cat....
