Kansas Draw Results

First time being unsuccessful in the draw. I had drawn the last 8 times I’d applied so I was due to miss one lol.
You been hunting public, private, or leased some ground? 8 years running is a dang good roll!

Private the first 2 years then all public had some great hunts out there…its went down hill on public last 3-4 years but its still pretty decent hunting that I look forward to every year.

Down hill due to a lot of hunters?

Yeah the pressure on public the last 2-3 years has been wild nothing like was when I first started hunting public out there (2017)

There still great deer around just expect people walking in on you daily or setting up 50 yards down the creek insight of etc. The walk in pieces will have hunters on it every single day from about a week before Halloween til December anymore.

I’m in. Will start making trips in October with a big push in November.
Before THP TV hunters absolutely raved about Kansas. Seemed like Realtree did like 20 episodes a year there.

I’m curious if Kansas has had a limited draw for years now why it’s all of a sudden a problem? Weren’t there only so many non resident tags allowed in years past? Were all those hunters not going to public or what?

I ask out of ignorance. I don’t know much about Kansas or its history.

KS has had the same number of non resident tags for many years. The demand as every state has gone up. Of course there was some shady politics that goes with some of this too.

So then in years past were those people not hunting public? We’re all the tags not filled?

I guess the giant spike in public land hunting then eludes me then.

My best guess… most of the private land is now locked up to high $$$ leases, hunters on public are staying longer, hunting more days, ONX gives people more courage to also explore public, internet exposure to how lucrative Kansas is or once was… add all this up and you get congested public hunting ground..

A combo of both. Not a lot on public and there were typically leftovers. Then land owners got the pay to hunt bug with outfitters and such. The locals always talk about Texans coming up and ruining access and affordability by paying obscene money.
KS is crowded but still not even close to Colorado. Right now the effects of drought are worse than hunter numbers.

I think it’s mostly a perfect storm of getting the courage to do it through onx, mobile hunting becoming all the rage and public land being the cool new thing mix that with very limited public ground and and locals getting pushed off their private due to leasing outfitters etc…I know up until 2017/2018 I’d hunt all week I my area an only see 3-4 others out in the public all week ….those days are long gone I think I still apply every year but won’t hunt November.
