Keeping carabiner in place while climbing with rappel line

Question for the guys using the carabiners instead of a quicklink: Have you noticed any issues with the carabiners over time ie. bending or sticky gate operation?

No I havent but I havent used that configuration much at all since switching to the running jrb. Like the pic above though, a friction hitch on the main line and biner at the end seems like a great if not the best option. That is keeping in mind the mbs of the hitch cord and maybe using a hitch that allows for clipping into a double strand loop rather than a single strand loop.

I haven’t but I also don’t do it enough to comment. I used to use a biner that way all the time and never had a concern but I’ve switched to steel oval or delta >90% of the time because it’s supposed to be stronger. I question if it’s necessary or even better… but I keep doing it anyway.
 
Consider trying the maverick or running JRB hitch when practicing in off season. Very easy and quick to tie w/ just a little practice and way easier to retrieve rappel line at end of hunt. They both work fantastic and don't slide down the tree. I will never go back to using a quick link or biner again. Both of these methods can be found on the JRB YouTube channel.
 
If I understand your issue correctly, a fender washer or two works.

Do a youtube search for "Tether lock". You'll get a bunch of ideas, while trying to sell you the ohm, and maybe that's the solution. I just like trying cheap every day fixes before purchasing.

If I did use a carabiner I'd use it like this....
Or like JC3 posted.....no chance of side loading or slippage!

And what is on the end of your pull-down rope.

I tried it for a while a couple years ago and after all kinds of different stuff I came to the conclusion that climbing with my rappel rope sucks!
I climb and hang out on a dedicated tether...

You could add a hitch tender and attach the pull down rope to that…

I second this. Easy knots to tie and eliminate all metal hardware.

See I agree! I don’t like to climb with mine either. I actually stopped one sticking last year because I don’t like carrying the rappel rope. I like to rappel down but do not enjoy the extra weight associated with the rope, quick link, belay device, extra Biner, backup, pull down dyna glide and attachment etc. I feel like I’m being whiny about it but I just can’t get beyond it. Going to really work a lot with the Sladder this coming season and tethering back down. If I get completely comfortable with it it will be one of the most efficient systems out there imho.

Have you given 2TC a shot yet???
 
I girth hitch a shock cord loop on the carabiner. Once I put the rope in the carabiner, I slide the open part of the loop over the carabiner and close it. It holds it in place and I can pull it down pretty easily.
