Kids in saddles

Does anyone have any recommendations for kids saddles. My 12 year old daughter has a climbing harness and has climbed SRT. I haven’t had her climb sticks yet. I’m wondering if it’s easier to have kids use SRT instead of sticks. Also are there saddles that work well for kids and some that don’t? Would a sit drag with the climbing harness be good? I don’t know much about sit drags. I want her to get a lot of practice this summer for next fall.

Watching. I have a 13 and 9 year old they slide out of my saddle.

Good question. I young girls, so I’m interested in what’s recommended

Tree Hopper has a small Recon for 34 in waist or below. You should contact Mark. But personally I would suggest looking into a fleece DIY saddle for younger kids as they will cost you only a few bucks and you can find a dependable RCH everywhere.

I think I just figured out how to make a saddle that would let out into a full size saddle later. I’m gonna post here so the guys that are interested can have input into this thing. The main problem with the grow with me idea I have is the pleat. It would become very bulky being folded over and sewn to where you could cut those stitches later and have a bigger saddle. So how necessary is a pleat? It adds a lot of comfort. The other option is keep the pleat and find a way to add adjustability for the width by using webbing and slide adjusters that could be removed once they were adjusted all the way out

The other issue is cost. Once you start putting that much into building a saddle the price has to go up also. I can make a kids saddle like the one I made @Red Beard for half the price of an adult saddle. But when you add all these options the price raises quickly. So how much is too much for a kids saddle

My personal opinion after making two saddles for my daughter is that kids don’t need a pleated saddle. I don’t think they weigh enough to experience the same kind of pinch us old guys do and I don’t think they sit in a tree long enough. A 2 hour hunt for my daughter would be a long one!!!

There are plenty of comfortable adult saddles that do not have a pleat - the Kestrel, for instance.
