so wheres dan at now make a vidio dan.how many sadle hunter have died because they fell asleep.seriously does anyone know the stats.its like compairing apples to onionsThis would actually be a very informative and worthwhile endeavor
I'm sure Dan enjoyed stirring the pot.
I don't ever remember stand hunters getting so worked up about pro-saddle videos. At least not to the level of contention of this has produced. Those with doubts mostly just write it off.
if for some strange reason a tether or bridge breaks that company shouldnt be making terd popcicklesDan did make a valid point that's always been in the back of my mind when using a saddle. In a stand you really need both your stand and harness/tether to give out before you fall. In a saddle it's just your tether/bridge keeping you from falling because it's unlikely that you'll catch yourself in time to keep from falling. I know some people double down on tethers and/or bridges for that reason. But I've also heard of at least one person clipping their tether into their belt loop by accident and then it gave out when they leaned back.
1000 percentI don't think people are getting worked up over the fact the video was pro-stand. They're getting worked up over Dan's deceitfulness in comparing the two. From his 'forgetting' his safety harness to using a new saddle hunter that is scared of heights, It was an obvious attempt to marginalize a competing method of hunting in an attempt to potentially increase sales of his product, while saying the entire time that he was "unbiased". I think people are also taking it a little more personally because Dan has largely been considered to be "above" all the industry and marketing BS.
I personally like what I know about Dan and have learned a lot from him and his website, and there is no arguing that he is a deer killer. But, with this video I think people are coming to the realization that he is now a deer killer with his own hunting products and is part of the 'industry' like many others.

Fearless Leader actually bought a camp chair. A new power is rising. Embrace it, or face your doom!!@Nutterbuster I am worried about you buddy, straying so far from the path of the enlightened tree hunter, and even convincing those of our order to join you. Coups and assassinations have occurred over smaller offenses. I am sure every morning @redsquirrel hovers his pointer finger of the red "BAN" button on his bedside table and then talks himself out of it thinking: "ah he will come around, today is the day! I just know he's gonna finally sell that camp chair"
I look forward to reading your posts on dirthunter.com one day
Just put it in your pocket.I'd be up for the no gear challenge but my saddle is the most important part of my ground hunting...I'm not sitting on the ground...it's too wet where I'm going
I think there are a variety of reasons folks are revved up. Like I said, I'm sure Dan enjoyed stirring the pot. (Just look at his shirt selection for the video).
To be clear, I never said people are worked up because it is a pro-stand video (some are). I said I've never seen stand hunters so worked up over pro-saddle content. There is plenty of pro-saddle content that oversells saddles and undersells stands too, imo. Wether such content is intentionally deceitful, thoughtless, inconsiderate, or just salsesmanship, IDK. Does it stoop? Does this stoop? Fair or foul? Yes.
It just doesn't move the bar for me. It's not quite pinocchio and the fox.
I'm with you. It doesn't really move the needle for me. I just rolled my eyes at certain parts of the video and moved on.
There has been plenty of "spirited" conversations about saddle hunting on the Beast. I think the reason your seeing a slightly bigger reaction to this video than most others is a testament to the respect Dan has in the community. Nobody cares when Joe Schmo posts a video overselling the benefits of saddle hunting. And nobody cares when certain companies over-hype their products in an obvious marketing attempt to sell more products. They care when someone they respects does it and claims he isn't.
@raisins Not picking a fight or shushing. Just interested in the intellectual challenge that this comparison invites.
May I ask, by your logic, if one were to unweight their tether while in a saddle by standing up on their platform (say, like the Mission), does this mean they now would have a 2-layered anti-fall system just like a treestand hunter with a safety harness? This of course assumes that the static fall on the saddle/bridge/tether was within it's breaking strength rating.
A 7lb 16x29 stand is a picnic table?i could post pics all day of trees you will never get a stand in.whole wilderness full.there are tree as big around as trucks here.had to tether of of branches the size of those trees .you cant hang your stand over your head from a branch.means nothing .all these tools have their.place.just using any kind of climbing gear is rare for me.majority of my sits are in fir trees where i climb the branches and the gap between them is to narrow for any stand.and many time miles from the car.i would like to see anyone cary that picknicktable from luckimute creek to the top of sykes mountain where i harvest my first deer.there are many reasons oregonians dont use stands.its a small comunity here.less in saddles but for this terain people havent learned the opertunity it opens up
