All i hunt (in Nebraska) is leaning trees...there are no straight river bottom cottonwoods where i go. Two seasons in a saddle and no problems (unless its a hard leaner and its blowing 20-30). Loved my Assault and sticks, shot my biggest buck out of it, in a leaning tree at that. But as things get lighter and more efficient, can’t see myself going back to stands. But...if you call and say”bring your .308 and come sit in a condo over the food plot and shoot some does”, I’m there in a second!! Its hunting! last season i killed my buck at ten yards-on the ground, wearing my saddle while walking in to hang.
thats what im talkin about right there.ive wore my saddle for an entire elk season every day and didnt use it once.its just not the standard for that kind of hunt .but i roll with it just incase i feel the need to climb.a couple times planned on covering ground but decided to climb and filled tags.one time ijust climbed to rest.

Excuses, excuses
I'm sure u know the joys of swampbutt....
Besides...we all know that u gotta use some form of gear if u successful far back away from the vehicle...I guess u can gut with a broadhead and balance the quarters on a stick on ur shoulders but that to hardcore for me

I'd be up for the no gear challenge but my saddle is the most important part of my ground hunting...I'm not sitting on the ground...it's too wet where I'm going
We need to get together this off season since I’m probably an hour or so away. no one down here (that I’ve met) even know what a saddle is. Or, at least not in my age group, lol

Sounds good.... There is enough peeps in north florida for a meet and greet if u know a good spot. I got 1 picked out but I have to verify that u don't need a permit to use the gazebo

Slightly off topic, but last year I cooked up an idea. A terrible, awful idea...

Who's in for a no-gear challenge? No gear allowed that doesn't fit in your pants or jacket pockets with the exception of your weapon. No saddle, no climber, no $250 chair. No presets! For extra points you could do it with nothing but a 2 wheel drive car for access and "civvy clothes". Could compete for the biggest buck and the highest head count.

How much of an edge IS all this stuff anyway?

I'm game but, only if you get rid of the wheels, sights, extra cables and all that other 'gear' you don't need on your bow. ;)

Deal. Not a wheel to be found on my mini, all strings and cables are essential to its function and therefore not "extra", and I am in no way opposed to letting an arrow fly at a 20 yard deer without a sight. ;)

Or I can go with the muzzleloader if you wanna go trad!

i killed my first deer with a pocket knife.didnt practice shooting a such a steep angle .spined him from up in a tree.and couldnt just watch him suffer so i climbed down and cut his throat .sucker kicked me first.but i deserved it.should have just jumped out of the tree with my knife like rambo.....it was not a good experiance

my freind jaimie is a wrestler .and we where drinking at a bonfire out side my freinds house for a retirement party when the forked horn buck was to enterested in the fire .he kept walking right up be hind us .eventualy jamie desided to tackle it .he almost got it.it made me think maybe knife season is duable.probably the beer thinking

I tried to find it but was unsuccessful so u just gotta take my word for it, but I read a real interesting science report on this man that they found inside a glacier. He was perfectly preserved from the paleolithic era. He was so well preserved that they were able to determine his last meal (salmon and berries)....and he had his gear with him. He had spear, flints of various sizes, napping tool, sinew, and a bone needle in a small skin pouch..

They thought this guy just had an accident and fell into freezing water if I remember correctly. He did have tats....all bada$$ norsemen did.
