Knaider/Swaider tutorial

@g2outdoors , yours are way too perfect looking :) It needs a hack sewing job like on mine.

@MCDM , look at the parts list in this thread. If you buy four strap adjusters then no sewing required. The two extra adjusters will replace the sewed sections.

I should have also mentioned that the original intention of the bungee was so I could let the strap go as I moved up and down. You can certainly hook it somewhere on your person, but I wanted to eliminate that step, and I did not want to miss clip it and have it fall below my feet. But I really like how it flips the biner over for easy unclipping. Remember, everything is harder to do when it is dark and you have a bunch of clothes on.

I am glad people are trying it. I look forward to peoples' improvements.

That is precisely why I'm using I'm using it in conjuction with the tether girth hitched to the lineman's belt. I can let it go if I want but at the same time I don't have the elastic action of the bungee. Plus I normally have my tether set up this way regardless of climbing method so I can work around branches.

Just tried it without the bungee. Nope. It's annoying to worry about dropping the 'biner and it hitting a step on the way down. Bungee looks like the way to go. My Swaider is just a tad too long as well. I'm going to shorten it by a couple inches. That's why we practice these things in the off-season.

Y’all are killing me. Now I’m thinking about ways to carry this system in. I’m thinking 3 stepps on either side of my backpack and the predator platform on the back. I wonder if WE would make two 3-Stepp bags haha

@IkemanTX Everything is in my pack. whoopie to hang my gear, bow stuff, and all the other do dads needed for hunting. My steps, ring of steps, and even the sitdrag is packed in there as well. Still plenty of room for food and water. Large clothing will be strapped outside to the pack. So far, I only hike with the rock harness on me, but I could wear the sitdrag as well. I find it more convenient to have it packed. I have a similar setup for scouting, since I have twice as many steps than I need. I can walk around all day through the thickest stuff without issue.

I run the same small pack for scouting and hunting (5.11 Rush 12) and would be looking for a permanent, exterior mounted solution. I currently run my spurs strapped to the sides like this...

I would want to find a similar solution for any method I use. I prefer not to have to open or get into anything when I get to the tree. With the way I pack, I can just reach back and unclip what I need and off i go. It has me spoiled.

You can also carry the Predator platform messenger style. It's very quiet and comfortable when carried in this manner.

The Predator platform is really light and it can be attached to the saddle without weighing it pulling the saddle down too much. All you need is a nicely placed gear tie on the molle webbing loop or even a paracord loop.

When I was in buyup mode, I purchased some stepps used, that included an aider from WE. I'm using the clip from that on the longer aider (not sure which I can't keep up with lingo). Flips nicely with a bungee. It's pretty heavy, but if you've already invested in this, its useable.
 
@BassBoysLLP, @g2outdoors, @Peterk1234 can you guys use straight nylon webbing or would you use milspec or tubular. As far as the plastic buckles on the knaider what strength would you recommend? Im just gonna break down and buy a thread injector
 
@ Ikeman - I made a fleece cover for mine that slips over the platform and attaches with string ties (Klemz - will make a similar one when I get the Predator) keeps it from banging into things and making too much noise. Since I bought filming gear it will go in my pack and I will carry my platform over my shoulder like shown above. it also serves as a dirt catcher for those times I am hunting in swamp and pick up mud that has a terrible habit of drying and being knocked loose about the time deer start showing up.

If you are buying buckles, the itw fastex buckles are nice. I used them on a previous spur mod.

@MCDM I used a the strap from a ratchet I had lying around in the garage. Tubular is more heavy duty, but I'm not big enough to worry about it. Also, the plastic buckle serve no weight bearing function. They only keep the knaider around your leg. They don't have to be too heavy duty. My little cheap plastic ones work well. If the buckle broke, the hook would remain hooked over the rung of the step and your lineman belt would be supporting you.
 
Since I had the hook, the buckle, the webbing, the shock cord, and the carabiner, the only thing I had to buy were the o-rings. I found a super heavy duty one in the plumbing section at ACE hardware. I bought 8 of them at $.50 each. It took me less than 10 minutes of actual sew time, 15 minutes of measuring and figuring, and another 20 minutes of testing for the entire project.
