From a saddle hunters perspective, what do you carry a knife for other than field dressing? Also how do you carry it?

I carry a neck knife, just in case I have to cut myself away from the inevitable OPLUX web I'll end up in!

Outdoor edge or my old Gerber gator grip in my kill kit, benchmade steep canyon hunter scout carry at 1 o'clock. But I have at least a pocket knife on my person at all times, just incredibly useful.

When bow hunting I carry a Knifes of Alaska 3 1/2" blade fixed on my pack belt, a Gerber neck knife, and a Gerber folding in my kill kit.

I have a mora on my saddle that goes with me. I also have around my neck a small another mora and on my belt I either have a custom made knife from Todd Orr or my Jack Brandt knife. In my pocket I usually have my spyderco police model knife.

Ive grown increasingly fond of the cheapo little knife i bought for $5 from the local fleet store, sharpens nicely and holds a edge, no folding mechanism to get filled with dirt or break. Been using as a edc pocket knife and will continue to carry it into the woods i think

A small G.Fred Asbell around my neck. The first year I bear hunted in Munising Mi, I bought a Buck General, and they made so much fun of it I didn't even carry it. I believe they are about a 12" blade.

This will be my first year saddle hunting, I usually carry a Buck 110 on the belt of my pack but am considering picking up either a Buck or Benchmade to replace it while cutting as much weight as possible. Its obvious that some of you guys carry to facilitate access to your blade at all times so I'm definitely needing to change where I carry it. I have some things to think about as I practice with my set up over the next month and into the season. Thanks for the input everyone and best of luck in the field this season.

I have a video of mine on my YouTube below. $25 bucks on Amazon, holds an edge great and has held up in amazing fashion. Made by CRKT called the Minimalist! As @Jay_Disarray said and uses, this too is a neck/boot knife. Give it a looksie! I slip the hard plastic sheath in the stop watch pocket of my jeans and it holds true even when pulling the knife out. Available in different blade styles.
