Hey I was just curious if anyone knew the knot that latitude has on the metal free saddle I have owned both iterations of the method saddle 1 and 2 and have sold both but I love the rope belt and I have about 5 feet of oplux and was wanting to put on on my tx5 and see how well I like it on it

not sure what its called but looks like one rope schwabisch...

^^^ I'm not sure if that's the right one?

I couldn't get the knot they use tied right.
So I use the Blake’s Hitch.
I just did my TX5. I like the rope way better than their belt.
I did my own rope belt on my Method with a Blake’s as well...

Honestly I've never tried to tie it, but I got the knot info from Latitude. A blakes definately works too.

That video you linked is one of the ones I tried to follow along with.
I couldn't get it using both ends of one rope. I tried a bunch of times and gave up.

@kmleach gave me the me the name and he was really nice to chat with.
I like the folks at Latitude!

This is the first ive heard of a metal free saddle. I can see the appeal, but am used to my buckles. What are they doing for leg loop - similar to the belt? I’ll have to check this out

It’s an adjustable bend. Search for Method 2 belt mod started by me that talks about it and how to modify it.

I guess leaving Latitude off made a difference…lol. Thanks!

Oplux is soft and it's not big around.
I've tried a few different ropes and bigger or stiffer ropes can be felt and become uncomfortable after a while if you have any pressure points underneath, like belt loops in your huntin' pants, or whatever...

I bet Amsteel would be ok? I haven't tried it but it's probably a good choice.

Both saddles I made this year I followed the video I shared and I used amsteel. Really liking the rope belt and the amsteel is light but holds great. Added benefit of that style of rope built is it has a spliced eye on the end that you could use for a safety/backup connection.

I had some amsteel in the garage and just tried the knot and seem to work well. Holds well and breaks free easy enough. I added the extra wrap per @MNFarmHunter thread that seemed to work well. I will put on the saddle I have and give it a go. Thanks for the help!

Do the knots hold firmly enough to keep a saddle that’s laden with saddle bags from sliding down on a multi mile walk? Do you find the knots feel bulky and impede bending at the waist?

I have a Method 2. I tighten the bridge down also and have no issues with sagging. I slide the knot to the left side of my waist and it is not noticeable.

I’ve worn mine for no longer than 1 mile. It held up a full tethrd sys hailer and tethrd roll pouch with 35’ of 9mm rope, madrock, carabiner, and quick link. The knot is small if you use amsteel and if it’s a free floating belt then you can move the knot wherever you want.
