Learners and sitters

I can lean for a very long time in the evo, but about 2 minutes after I sit I'm reminded to unbuckle the belt.

I removed a hang on last week so I could saddle hunt the tree. Sat for a few minutes first and felt "exposed".

I thought all of this was weird until I found this site. My buddies, and even some family, tell me it is anyway.
Truth is this is the new normal! But seriously, it just feels more natural to me.
Maybe a dumb question but I have always been wary of unbuckling that belt and haven't tried at ground level. So that's safe?

I am just wondering, how are you defining yourself? What makes a leaner? What makes a sitter? I have my ideas on how I define it, but I wanted to see how others define it.

Thanks,
Boswell
I define a sitter as how you sit in a swing while swinging. I define leaner as how you are when you are fixing to start swinging with legs straight on the ground.

I think that is a pretty good definition. I would add that I think a sitter has the majority of their weight on their butt while hanging, and a leaner has their weight distributed much more between their butt and their feet.

I unbuckle mine when adding layers so I can get the saddle over my heavy clothes. I buckle back up afterwards and keep it semi tight. I am normally standing on my platform when I do that though.

I would agree with G2 on this. I lean more time then I sit. Because i strive to get in 2hrs before sun up i will pretty much sit during that time and hug the tree. Once I can see actual shapes and outlines I will start to lean so that im prepared for what may come. Its a balance and I think the more you lean the more your muscles will get accustomed to it. Its like anything your body just has to get used to what you want it to do. Either way hunting cab take its toll on the body between the physical and mental but hey no better place to be other than a saddle in the woods.
2 hours before daybreak......You are dedicated my friend!

Okie is unbuckling to sit if I read that right.

Yes. For me the Evo dials in differently for a sit. I lean 90%, but I have to at least loosen the belt to sit for a while. I still feel safe with the main belt unbuckled tho. I feel like it's only there to keep it in place for the walk in.

Do you find it's much more comfortable that way?

I did that with my evo. I got the idea from daveT. I loosened the belt to get the back loosened enough to sit on. It was very comfortable then i just switched to the sit drag as it is less weight and more minimalist.

Unbuckled? Absolutely. It eliminates the hip pinch. But while I'm leaning it's almost always buckled, sometimes quite loose. Keep in mind I've only been using the saddle for a few months. I've been out a lot and several times for 6 - 8 hours. It gets more comfortable each time with minor adjustments. Lowering my tether hookup and shortening the bridge probably made the biggest difference.

IMO the evo is so overbuilt for safety that you would have to try to fall out even without the waist belt. Bottom line is I want to be able to move turn draw shoot without a safety concern. All that said, I have a Sitdrag hanging in the cave ready to convert this off season. That's probably gonna shake things up. o_O

Back to comfort - Someone posted on here that body type probably has the most to do with ones best setup. I completely agree. GW, Sitdrag, Evo, and just look at all the homegrown custom builds we see here. I'd bet no two are exactly the same.

I will have to try that next time out. Have about a month left in the season.
