Less is more.

You, sir, are about to cost me money. Remove my sys-es from my saddle, grab battle belt plus 2 h20 holders, a large ish flat mollepack, and put backpack straps back on my ridge runner.

Does it really need suspenders with some weight?

I hunted all year without them. I just recently added them to share a little of the load. The suspenders also make putting it on and taking it off in the tree a little quieter.

I started with a Fanny pack this year but was hard to deal with a saddle under it because both are around my waist. Hard to hook up linesman loops and adjust my waist belt. I’m a minimalist also but I found it better to carry a small backpack.
I used a fanny pack for a while with my hang on stand and rock climbing harness instead of full body style. Once the stand was off my back and tether and linesman belts were off the fanny (lashed them to the top) i would just spin the pack around to my back for the climb. No fuss at all and easy to get to my loops. Carried the bare essentials fine but if i needed more than a small bottle of water and some snack bars it wasnt enough.

First year with saddle. I used a LWHC Seat and slung it over my shoulder. Carried the saddle, tether rope, pull rope, head light and jacket etc in a Badlands Monster Fanny pack. No problem to do this but looking for ways to reduce it even further...

I like to stay minimal. Been Fanny pack only forever, never tote a pack. Did buy one last year when learning saddle hunting, sold it. I just shoulder my sticks and platform, shoulder strap is also a backband. Jacket drapes over the sticks for the walk in/out to stay cool

I find that it’s easiest to wear your Fanny pack backward, so it doesn’t get in the way. The bridge will pinch it up. So when I get set I take it off and strap to the tree. Even for an all day hunt I only bring one water and a pack of crackers.

What about in the winter? I'd never be able to go without a pack after Nov 1st and likely earlier due to weather. I'm a heavy sweater, if I wear more than base layers and a light vest in I'm soaked by the time I get to the tree, even if it's only a 400yrd hike.

I have gone through what seems like a ton of pack options. I have transitioned from a backpack, to one of my older small badlands fanny packs (they don’t make anymore), but I hate wearing a fanny pack on my hips with the saddle, rope bags, etc. So what has been working for me is that I am wearing the fanny pack sling style, over a shoulder. I can easily strap my one stick to it. With this setup, I never have to take the pack off to get the stick, or an item from the pack. When at the tree, I swing the pack around to the front, remove stick and attach it to the tree. Grab bow rope, connect, and climb. I simply swing the pack back around. I know you can do this by dropping a strap off your shoulder with the backpack, but the small fanny is so much easier and less bulk in the tree. I like it well enough that I just purchased an actual sling pack. I think this will satisfy my quest for the best setup for me.
Which sling pack did you get?

Just throw the coat over the sticks. I’ve taken my bibs off and thrown them over too. Or if my stand is already set up I just carry them. Is what it is. Nice and slow, whether it’s 400 yards or 1400, just try to give myself enough time to get there and not overwork/sweat.

Battle belt, small flat pack in center, h2O on either side. Carries everything i need except bow and platform.

Is that an air rifle? Good way to make sure you can hear the deer without interruption. Lol

60 degrees was a bit warm for deer to be moving, so I hung out in the back yard lookin for squirrel and rabbit. Had a fox almost make a mistake.

I'm going fanny pack only next year. I like the looks of the badlands tree hugger.

I "invented" a new way to carry all my cold weather gear by tying the legs of my bibs to the suspenders and wearing it like a backpack. It's awesome.

Tree hugger is on clearance at sierra trading post did $59 if you haven't picked one up yet.

I think the fanny pack really shines early season when its hot. I am much less likely to be carrying calls, clothes, food, anything extraneous in that time frame, and I am typically only hunting for a couple of hours per sit. Once late October hits, I switch to the full pack for longer sits and colder weather.

I agree. I tried it and ended up adding a military type chest rig to a battle belt fastened to my saddle. I can hang most of my climbing gear on this set up and carry a small sling pack for my clothes and platform.
