I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts on release aids. What are you using and why? Index, thumb, hinge, back tension? There seems to be so many options and opinions. I’ve always used an index release, but I have been considering branching out and trying something different. Hoping to generate some discussion.

I recently switched to a cobra moment release and am really happy with it. Personally i like a trigger style release and the hook makes it a quick and easy no look attachment to draw as opposed to looking and fiddling with the dual caliper release i was using before. And it was on sale for like $35 on lancaster archery supply which was a bonus. haven't tried any other kinds though so I can't say much more than that.

I have the clip on index finger style release. I have only had 1 issue with it in the entire time I've had it. During a last day of season hunt 2 years ago I clipped it on (or so I thought I did) and began to draw back on a nice fat doe. At about half draw it came off the D loop and the arrow went limping over the does back. Off she ran. I always draw with my index finger behind the trigger so I'm sure I didn't bump the trigger. I assumed it froze up a little and didn't completely latch on. I was never able to reproduce that failure. That pretty much summarized how that season went. Now, double checking that it is securely latched on is part of my shot routine. I've never tried thumb release or back tension.

I use a thumb Tru Ball Maxx Pro Four. I can't use wrist because ironically they hurt my wrist and I could never get used to the feeling. The thumb feels much more natural to me for some reason even with the action of rotating my hand over. I shoot it like a tension release.

Thumb. And Carter wise choice. I love it but selling because I have small hands and it’s a little big for me. I’ll stick with a thumb and probably get a stans.

Super personal choice. I've tried a little of each. I have a thumb style now. I'm still experimenting, I like the thumb, but I've shot index since going to a release 15 yrs ago. Buy from somewhere you can return to easily, if you know right away. It does take time to get used to a new style if you go with new. I'm on my third year with a thumb, I like it. I do still also keep my trigger as my backup.

I started with a fletchomatic thumb style with the rope around the string about 40 years ago...then went to an SY3 Thumb release that rotated and clipped onto the string...then the fletch hunter came out with the wrist strap and I have been using that for what seems like 30 years or a little more...I like the wrist strap because you wont drop it out of the stand ...I recently tried to use a thumb release again and shoot it like a back tension release...that doesnt work so well for me...I will stick to my fletch hunter with wrist strap...I suppose its hard to teach old dogs new tricks sometimes.

I like the wrist releases. I tried a thumb release, but just couldn't get comfortable with it. I have a Truball Execute.

I think my release will be 32 y/o this year lol. Have tried several over the years but have found anything I shooter better than the Fletch Hunter.

B3 Hawk with the swivel stem connector. It has tension and travel adjustments with fold-away design. I set the travel very short and tension high and I'm able to shoot it with back tension.
