Let's vote (how do you pull your bow up)...

How do you pull your bow up?

  • Retractable Leash (any type works fine)

    Votes: 14 10.7%
  • Retractable Leash (MUST be Doyle's)

    Votes: 35 26.7%
  • Para cord (wadded up in pocket ...knots don't take long)

    Votes: 22 16.8%
  • Para Cord (Figure 8)

    Votes: 44 33.6%
  • Kentucky Bow Rope w/figure 8 and slip stop

    Votes: 1 0.8%
  • Other

64 votes on the poll

Assessment 1: Ditch surveymonkey

Assessment 2: Paracord figure8 has a slight edge over Doyle's (as of now and too close to call) and in general, paracord is beating a retractable w/a few a few in the 'other' category.

Again, I'll consolidate, if there is a pattern, closer to poll close.

I have a Doyle's hoist I used last year and just received the Allen retractable hoist last week for my sons saddle and I actually like it as well!

I also carry another strap hoist with a hook on the end that I use to pull up other things when needed!

Keep it simple with paracord for me. The figure 8 wrap, I started doing some 5 years ago and that was a huge revelation to stop tangles. I don't see the appeal of adding a hoist but to each their own right.

Quick update
  • Paracord pulling ahead (in some form) of retractables, but people do love Doyle's and prefer the figure 8 over 'a wad of paracord'
  • Votes are slowing way down
  • Kentucky bow rope is essentially paracord with a 'slip stopper' to prevent burning fingers if the equipment goes down to slowly.
If votes stay slow, I'll do the tally and stop the voting early.

One more bump...

For guys carrying it up on their backpacks, what are you using?

Also, had some 1-offf comments on daisy chain as well as figure 8 for para cord.

I carry it up with me strapped to my backpack.

Same here. Bow clipped into my badlands pack and up I go. When all attached in the tree, pull the pack off and hang, then unstrap the bow and hang that on its own hook and clip in an arrow and release.

FINAL POST / RESULTS:

Couple of points:
  • Votes: Saddle Hunter (115) & Survey Monkey (9) - 124 Total Votes
    • Caveat: Some may have voted twice which could skew results
  • Winner: Para Cord (46.77%) over Retractable (41.13%) by a margin of 5.64%
    • However, when we look more specifically, Para Cord Figure 8 (32.26%) to Doyle's (29.84%), the margin decreases to 2.42%
  • While the simplicity and light weight of para cord barely edged out Doyle's, there is a SIGNIFICANT hidden gem IMO
    • GEM: Given that this is a 'light weight' group, the fact people are willing to carry the extra weight of a Doyle's Hoist speaks volumes. I mean seriously ...the fact that guys who shave their hair, clip their toenails to the cuticle & wear crocks to save weight are willing to pack this hoist speaks volumes :tearsofjoy:
    • To compare further, check out this link: some comments (and supporters) for Doyle's, as well as a video of Taylor discussing the Figure 8 (Post #26 in the thread) https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/gear-hoist-recommendations.14992/
  • What made the 'other' category?
    • 14/0 Treble Hook / Gear Grappler
    • Climb w/it on my back and or Gameplan Crossover Pack
    • Magnet, Allen Retractable, Strapperr
    • Para Cord on Kite Bobbin / daisy chain

I pull only my longbow or recurve - paracord - as simple as it gets and when figure 8 it doesn't tangle. I also use it with a modified treble hook to snag that one flippin limb that is always in the way......

First I like how detailed you went into this! Nice work.
I've always found that point funny. I carried a doyles into the woods a few times after the reviews on here and couldn't believe guys were carrying it. That sucker is big and heavy! I know @flinginairos has his in the bottom of his pack with a hole out of it, that is a better option to me than trying to wear it on my saddle.

I am not using paracord, I have switched to a slightly larger diameter cord that I just got from home depot. It's a little bulkier but it goes in the pack no problem and its still really light weight. It's a little bit stiffer and it doesn't knot up like smaller diameter cords.

Thanks for the feedback! I'd say Kentucky Bow Rope is similar - heavier diameter but has the slip stopper...

Sooo.

I shave because it's hot as heck, and I've already spent 9 nights camping this year, plus almost daily kayak/hike/bike excursions. Gotta stay clean!

I clip my fingernails so I can play them killer Sabbath riffs and Clapton licks on my electric boogie stick.

I wear crocs because they're literally the best.

Just had to set the record straight! :tearsofjoy:

I do like your write up though. I vote that we put you in charge of all other polls!

Awesome clarification. The things that aren't always obvious... :tearsofjoy:

So ...what's next?

How about a pack survey with what you carry and how you carry it ~ since the question comes up every 42 minutes and there is no clear cut leader........
