Lever Rifles

It's true, there are lots of options when it comes to lever gun calibers. Unfortunately, we here in Ohio can't use 33-30, 35 Rem, or any of the bottleneck options for deer. We are strictly straightwall cartridges for deer.

Really! That’s wild

Yep. High density population, and a whole lot of flat land.
DNR must believe the bottleneck rounds travel too far. The straight walls have only been legal for 8 or 10 years

A 300 Savage . It's older than I am.
Savage lever rifles have always been my favorite. I also have a .300 in the full size, .243 in the carbine and a take down in .250-3000 that my nephew "borrowed" 15 years ago. He is kind enough to let me see & touch it every year during the firearm season.

Killed my first with this gun 25 years ago, now my son killed his first and second with it. Marlin 336 in .35 rem with hornady leverevolution rounds, puts a hurtin on em!

Love my leverguns! First was a Rossi/Puma .357, I put a Williams peep and fiber-optic front on it and killed a javelina with it. Second is a Mossberg 472 .30-30 I bought from a co-worker for $150, killed my first deer with it. Most recent is a .444 Marlin I bought for a bear hunt. Have yet to kill anything with it but I'm hopeful for this year!

Really liking the new Ruger/Marlin .45-70s. That's a tough gun to beat, I want one.

I always wanted a Winchester 94 in 45 Colt. It would make a fun brush gun, short and handy. Years ago, I had a had a 94 in 30-30 and foolishly sold it off. I wish I still had it.

First time I hunt was with a Marlin 336 in 35Rem. Still my favorite rifle (well....still technically my FIL but its basically mine), but ammo for it is getting harder to find. I never used the 30-30 before but apparently it won the popularity contest between the 35Rem and 30-30.

I've always wanted one. My wife's uncle has one chambered in .25-35 its a beauty!! To make a gun like that nowadays would be a $2,500 piece with all the milling and tooling. Keep them and don't sell them!!

You guys are killing me lol. I've been wanting a Henry in .44mag for a long time and have never ran across one for the right price.

The way things are going, I may never see one for what they used to cost

I've had a NEF single shot in 45-70 for years....was my primary moose dogging gun fitted with a red dot. Still have it, but had a hankering for the Marlin lever in stainless for years, in part to get multiple shots. Finally had a bit of spare cash a three years ago and bit the bullet on that one (all puns intended). One of those "sneak it into the gun safe" purchases so the wife wouldn't know. LOL Now that I've had it for a few years, it's "Oh...that gun? Had it for years, dear!". :tearsofjoy:

I used to hand-load my 45-70 rounds since all you could get in factory rounds was lead bullets. I would load with 300gr JHPs. Don't need to reload any more since there are a lot of good factory rounds sporting JHPs how. I've primarily used Federal Fusion, but last year had the gun loaded with Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. We got our moose, but it wasn't me doing the shooting, so jury is still out on that round. One of my good friends dropped the calf with a 30-30 lever. I think that is a bit light for a large bull, but did the job nicely on the calf. Never had a moose go more than 20 yards when hit with a 300gr JHP. Those things pack a huge wallop.
