Licking branch tree fell over

Yes, I did. I hung it right next to a grape vine licking branch that I have over a well used mock scrape. I wanted to see if deer preferred one or the other. Final impressions were deer very slightly seemed to like the vine better but the rope was still well used.
I thought I had pics posted somewhere on the forum. I can't remember if it was it's own thread or part of an existing thread.
I remembered it enough to find it @Allegheny Tom .

Anyone try manilla rope/cord for a licking branch? It seems like they'd be easy to install (toss over an overhead branch and tie a loop and pull through). Although on public land, someone might tear it down as litter or it might draw attention for a hunter to come back.
Tried the Wenzels rope idea with pre orbital scent on the rope with little to 0 success.

Did you also make a scrape under it in put urine in the scrape? Probably obvious, but you didn't say.

No, never put urine under it. just raked the ground up with a stick. Maybe urine would have helped. Maybe try it next time.

A lot of guys just put their own in it. I guess after a few days it all smells the same. Hard to believe, but I guess it is true.

I found that out years ago. I peed on a logging road and found a scrape there a few days later. Seen it happen a few other places since.
Tink's doe pee was actually rabbit (doe) pee. DIY pee is cheaper....lol

If I start making mock scrapes, I've considered peeing in a jug and bringing it with me. I'd hate to be out there and not have to go more than 2 drops!

Yeah, all pee quickly turns to ammonia and then makes a cycle through several phases and becomes nitrogen. The difference is that We don’t add any tarsal musk to ours. But any urine in a scraped up area seems to draw them in. Wether or not it’s in a place they want to maintain is another matter.

Ammonia is a form of nitrogen.

Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.

I'm just surprised that despite the similarities that there isn't enough of a difference that deer haven't figured out how to detect predator urine with their super noses and avoid it.

I am too. But i have been peeing in scrapes for years now and it definitely works. We used to put out fox pee to scare away squirrels from our bird feeders when i was a kid. now i wonder if its all snake oil salesmen pissin in a bottle.

We don’t pass our urine across hairs that carry glandular oils like deer and dogs and lots of other critters. Also, Ammonia is a very powerful substance - such that humans often use it for breaking down and removing all kinds of substances in both home and industrial cleaning processes.

I think some do the first time they try to pee out of a saddle.....
