Hi guys I'm a new member on the forum, would you be good enough to give me your thoughts/advice on a light weight but reasonable compact climbing system. I travel over from the uk to hunt and need a system that I can bring across easily, I originally wanted wild edge steps with a aider but after weeks of trying to order from them I've given up. I can get cranford rope steps here and also lone wolf sticks , would a lone wolf stick be suitable to use as a single stick climbing method? Thanks for reading

I believe any stick can be used to one stick, so yes LW would work. Have you considered bolts? Not sure if you could drill into the trees where you hunt but that is a very compact light system.

It's going to be a mixture of state land and private, otherwise I'd go with screw in steps

Might help to share what state/area, in case that there are specific considerations.

Are you going to be fully mobile? Or doing a lot/primarily preset locations?

If you want stepps with an aider - don't give up (see if someone will sell user maybe?). Or try an aider with the cranford steps. Or really just get what you can get and practice to figure out what you like. You might hate 1-sticking or love it. Same with aiders. Practice and comfort is more important than detail.

I'll be hunting in Texas , I can preset on the private if I want the state land I was going to try mobile sets. I don't need to get crazy high maybe 12-15ft from what I've seen. I'm trying to give myself plenty of time to get proficient with whatever I end up going with

The one stick method works a lot better with a stick that has a rope cam cleat so muddy pro sticks or you could add a cam cleat to another stick like lone wolf

Is a cam cleat easy to fit to another brand of stick? From the videos I've watched it would appear the way to go

Yes. Most cam cleats just need two holes drilled through the stick with two bolts holding the cam cleat.

The new Hawk Heliums are supposed to be coming out sometime in April. They have double steps and I'll be buying one to attempt one-sticking after selling off my WE Stepps.

Yeah a double step will make it better. Best options I think are hawk helium, beast stick, api stick, muddy pro, or diy

I ended up buying Dano double steps ( real good guy to deal with , thanks dan ) and I'm going to cut a lone wolf stick down and fit a clam cleat , is there a particular size or model that's recommended

I got a question for all the big boy 275lbs + saddle hunters, what method are you using for climbing a tree?? I am around 310 and looking to slim down to be even more sexier, but until then it is what it is! I am looking at the WE steps and the LW sticks, I cant use bolts, I hunt public land only! Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

I’d go sticks , you can go ultra light & get adventurous w/ different climbing methods once sexier.

Srt is easy if setup right use to leg aider and hand ascender with a adjustble bridge

I’m new to this site but hunted last season out of my saddle. I was fortunate enough to order WE steps ahead of the crowd and got some in time.
With my weight in your range, I had no problems, even on pine trees. Have a lone wolf hand climber seat on order as alternative method to get higher up in the tree while loosing the bag over my shoulder.
