LIVE from the saddle 2023

Had a little 4 point work through the saddle and bed down at 15yds for about 10 min, until a group of does crossed the ridge. He chased them down the ridge, then back up until the lead doe decided she had enough and turned on him blowing and stomping until he ran off. I should have got down moved after she blew as I didn't see anything for the rest of the day.

As a side note....the buck was straight downwind. I had rattled a couple times earlier in the afternoon and saw two other smaller bucks that pretty much crossed the same spot. The east wind had them pushing up to the edge of hard cover.
My shot was off the right side as I was facing the tree when I saw him. I reached across my RCH and grabbed the bow from the hanger. Took one look as he stood between two trees, then waited till he quartered a touch more away.
No rubber boots, no scent reducing clothing. Jeans and layers and putting yourself in the right spot.

The big 9 I wounded last season came in downwind. Strange things happen sometimes. Congrats

That is a nice buck. Of course you can't kill a deer the way you did without buying scentlock, odor reducing sprays and an ozone dispenser. Don't expect it to ever happen again. Ha!

It's funny how guys buy all the stuff and have an experience like you just had and know it was because of the products that they weren't detected.

I know a guy who killed big deer regular. He and his wife kept multiple dogs in the house, the house reeked, his clothes all stunk of dog. Didn't cause him any real problems. I'm sure he got smelled, but I'm betting the most scent concious hunter who does all the gyrations gets smelled occasionally as well.

This time of year a buck will come from any direction. Sometimes they get a whiff of you, sometimes they get an arrow through the ribs.

All my best shot opportunities so far this year, including one kill, came while I was wearing buffalo plaid. I like realtree and mossy oak and predator and woodland and digital and whatever else, but damn if that flannel shirt doesn’t just up the cool factor and shove it right up the nose of the “industry” when a deer looks right through you and you’re wearing the same plaid shirt people have been killing deer in for a hundred+ years.

Plaid IS camo just so you know! lol.

Just had a little buck chasing does all over my yard. I've got the bow in the back room ready to go if the big guy I've seen and got on camera comes back around on one of my work from home days.

Does "Live from the Porch" work here?
Hey man, it’s Nov 7 and i already spooked two giants just letting the dogs out this morning. I’ma be Live from the Garage if one of them makes a mistake.

I've got an old quilted white, gray and black plaid quilted shirt I wore for years for hunting in cottonwood timber. Works as good as skyline camo. They look at you and then go back to what they were doing.

Antler restrictions really creates patience. I guess that helps tame down the buck fever as well. This pretty 6 was cruising a ridge trail. Restricted to 4 points on one side in the area I’m hunting.
Id kill for 4 high antler restrictions in Eastern PA. The bucks we have in western PA because of those restrictions are ridiculous

Her blowing likely isn't why you didn't see anything else

Up in a triangle strip of cover on private next to a pond on the eastern edge with this westerly wind. Hoping to catch a cruiser buck.
