I’m so glad I didn’t put my burden on a team. First “saddle” hunt of the year. Forgot rope for stick, and to pull up bow. Improvised, and dropped bow and broke quiver.

Started walking again and jumped a million deer.

At least bow is ok.
Yesterday I went out, packed everything on my .5, hiked back about a mile, found a tree, then realized I didn’t have my saddle. Leaves too loud to walk back and get into there so hunted from the ground and saw nothing.

Windy in the northeast, ar least where I am. Anyone else not a huge fan of sitting in the wind? I like still days where I can hear better. On a side note. Any wind stopper fleece work?
Was out this morning since they were calling for more wind this afternoon... was a little breezy, and seen nothing but leaves falling.
This afternoon... nice and calm... but had other stuff planned.

I do NOT like sitting in a swinging tree,,,,

RIding my bike out, put my foot down on this guy, hit me on the top of hiking boot behind the ankle, luckly just got boot. Pic doesnt show how big he was but it was the biggest 1 ive ever seen. 2.5-3ft, he flattened out and was a good 3in wide just top of back.

Quick set up with the Sladder this evening. Just used the stirrups for the platform. Doe hunting now until firearms season. Of course I got to my location a little later than I wanted…. and of course here they come while I’m still not set up and my bow is still on the ground…… I moved to put the tree directly between me and quickly pull up my bow. Dang! My release isn’t on yet! Ever try getting a wrist release on while holding your bow because you weren’t finished putting your bow holder up and the deer are 60 yards away and closing? So glad the wind was spiking pretty good they couldn’t hear me at all. They got to within 40 yards and they didn’t like something. They didn’t blow but went back into the vineyards. The wind was shifting from northwest to north northwest so who knows. I waited another 20 before getting down.

Sladder is quick but in funky leaning trees you better be ok with working the “rungs” to the middle of your foot which can be tricky if the tree twists or leans away. It’s definitely a very handy climbing method. I didn’t bring the rappel so that was interesting climbing back down lol!

Ok this is the 3rd fine tune move, just need a cruiser….. had a nice buck at 36yds last night. Now that trail is 14yds. Let’s go!!View attachment 109846View attachment 109847

@Bigterp has better service than me, I can’t post from the tree where we’re hunting but I had his nice buck from last night at 25 yds 45 min before he he had it at 36. :)

We’ve spent the last three days hunting public in VA for the first time and we’ve had buck encounters every day including sub 40 yard encounters with 2 bucks each, one a really nice 8 pt. Tomorrow’s the last chance to get one under 20 yds. Hoping @Bigterp gets his first trad deer.
